Recently, our secondary Maple Dragons attended the ninth Zongheng Cup International Schools Chinese Debate Tournament, embracing the spirit of “Thinking Critically in Chinese, and Seeing the World in Chinese.”
Throughout the competition, students debated a range of challenging and engaging topics, from the value of art and science to the role of Artificial Intelligence in psychological counselling. Beyond the competition itself, the experience allowed students to strengthen their critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills while learning alongside peers from across the region.
In today’s educational landscape, debate and critical thinking are increasingly recognized as valuable skills for future success. Participation in debate competitions has even been linked to stronger university applications, with some studies suggesting that students involved in debate and public speaking activities may improve their university admission opportunities significantly. Experiences like these help students build confidence, think analytically, and communicate effectively in real-world situations.
We are incredibly proud of our Maple Dragons for their outstanding achievements and dedication throughout the tournament. Congratulations to Grade 9 students Peggy, Alice, and Maria, along with Grade 10 student Rex, for representing CISH with excellence and confidence. Together, they achieved:

Group B: Annual Overall Third Place
Qualification for the 2026 Global Debate Championship

Peggy Wei (Grade 9) — Best Debater in the Preliminary Round
Rex Hsu (Grade 10) — Best Debater in the Preliminary Round, Quarterfinals, and Semi-finals
Alice Deng (Grade 9) — Outstanding Debater of the entire tournament
