On 6 June 2026, at the Hilton Shenzhen Shekou Nanhai, Shenzhen Merchiston International School (MIS) will hold the global launch conference for its AI Future Academy, officially announcing the establishment of the AI Future Academy. This is the first academy within a pure British international school in the Greater Bay Area focused on “holistic education + AI empowerment”, aiming to cultivate the next generation capable of harnessing technology and defining the future.

MIS delivers a
strong academic record
In the 2026 application cycle, 51 MIS graduates received 186 offers from world‑renowned universities, achieving both Oxford and Cambridge offers – making MIS the first pure British international school in the Greater Bay Area to attain Oxbridge double offers. The admission rate to G5 universities and Hong Kong’s top 3 institutions exceeded 70%, with offers from Imperial College London, LSE, UCL and other leading UK universities. In the US, a full scholarship to Amherst College (the top liberal arts college in the country) was secured. In Hong Kong, offers for HKU’s Science Master Class, AI, Law and other flagship programmes were all received – a clean sweep.
At the same time, in the recently released 2026 HSBC · Forbes China International School Selection, MIS was ranked first among pure British international schools in Shenzhen and was named an “Outstanding School for Expatriate Children in Shenzhen” (one of only two schools in the city). These numbers and honours are not meant to prove “being the strongest”, but to demonstrate that MIS has always been doing the right thing – enabling students to stand on the crest of technological waves, not be swept away by them.
The AI Future Academy is guided by the principles of “seizing the trend, understanding the way, and refining the methods”. Seizing the trend means making AI a lifelong learning companion for students, creating a full‑chain empowerment system: AI‑accompanied learning, AI‑supported learning, AI‑research learning, AI‑evaluated learning, AI‑enjoyable learning, and AI‑study abroad guidance. Understanding the way means cultivating individuals with warmth, ethical grounding and the ability to master technology. Refining the methods means integrating diverse resources from campus and society, laboratories and enterprises, so that genuine knowledge supports growth. The core philosophy is distilled as “Love & AI + Academics + Arts + Sports + Science + Competencies” – with love as the foundation, AI as wings, and academics as the root.
The Academy’s first intake will be for Years 10‑13 (ages 14‑18), with a limit of 60 students, small classes, high quality. The curriculum breaks away from the traditional “memorising answers” model and shifts to project‑based learning that asks questions. In terms of faculty, each student has four types of mentors: international curriculum teachers, AI engineers, overseas university professors, and corporate project mentors – accompanying them all the way. The Academy has also established the Turing Scholarship, which looks beyond examination results to value innovation, passion and love for technology.
AI education at MIS
did not start today
In fact, MIS’s exploration of AI is not a recent effort. From kindergarten onwards, the school has systematically taught programming, computational thinking and AI literacy.
It was among the first in the world to implement a complete AI curriculum in Years 7‑11. Students have won national top‑three awards and an Outstanding Impact Award at the MIT Hackathon. The school also developed its own “Holistic Student Portfolio System”, using data to track every child’s academic progress, character development, wellbeing and interests. These solid foundations have made the AI Future Academy a natural step forward.
On 6 June 2026 at 14:00, on the second floor of the Ocean Wing, Hilton Shenzhen Shekou Nanhai, MIS will hold the AI Future Academy global launch. School leaders, AI education experts and representatives from leading technology companies will come together to discuss the transformation of education and new pathways for talent cultivation in the AI era. At the conference, MIS will also present “Annual Outstanding Partner” and “AI Pioneer Partner” awards to several educational partners.
In 1979, the first blast at Shekou, Shenzhen, signalled the beginning of China’s reform and opening‑up. The spirit of “daring to be first, standing at the forefront” has been deeply rooted in this land ever since. More than forty years later, on the same soil, Shenzhen MIS once again demonstrates that courage and responsibility with the establishment of the AI Future Academy.
We sincerely invite students, parents, fellow educators and all who care about the future of AI‑driven education to join us, and together witness how the courage to educate can light the way for children into the unknown.
