一年一度的 Speech Day 演讲授章日 如期而至。

The Resonance of Honour
大家早上好，我是九年级的Elsa。
当我们听到“荣誉”这个词时，脑海中会浮现什么？是金牌闪耀的光芒？是宏大舞台上雷鸣般的掌声？还是那些镌刻在历史书中的名字？很长一段时间里，我都认为荣誉是一种看得见、摸得着的东西，就像在人群之上高高举起的奖杯。
但是今天，我站在这里，想为大家提供一个不同的角度：真正的荣誉，不是站在别人之上，而是向他人伸出援手。它不在孤立之中，而在联系之中被发现。
想一想音乐的力量。音乐是一种通用的语言，它能够打破人与人之间的隔阂。想想贝多芬。当他周围的世界逐渐陷入寂静时，他并没有退缩到绝望之中。相反，他创作了《欢乐颂》，即使自己身处黑暗，也选择与人类分享光明与美好。
再想想马友友。他提醒我们，音乐其实是一种让我们彼此倾听的方式，是一座弥合文化差异的桥梁，正如他通过“丝绸之路计划”所做的那样。这些传奇人物告诉我们，最高形式的荣誉，就是运用自己的天赋，为有需要的人带来希望。
我在11岁的时候，真正体会到了这一点。
那时，我正在兴隆小学做志愿服务。这所学校是在汶川大地震之后，带着爱与坚韧重建起来的。在访问期间，我了解到一个令人感动的细节：习主席曾亲自向那里的孩子们捐赠了一架钢琴。这充分体现了我们国家的领导人对偏远山区儿童的关心。
那天上午晚些时候，我站在操场上，面对着一排排好奇而明亮的眼睛。我开始演唱《让我们荡起双桨》。当这熟悉而轻柔的旋律在空气中飘荡时，我看到孩子们的脸上露出了灿烂的笑容。就在那一瞬间，年龄、背景和距离所形成的无形隔阂都消失了。音乐在我们的心灵之间架起了一座桥梁。
后来，我的朋友坐在那架钢琴前，为我弹奏伴奏。当我演唱《我和我的祖国》时，我的歌声与琴声交织在一起，产生了一种神奇的力量——我并不只是在表演；我是在分享。那时我意识到，学习音乐的真正目的并不是炫耀，也不是收集奖项，而是用自己的才华分享美好，并为他人带来希望。
这些年来，我有幸获得过许多奖项。然而，它们都不如兴隆小学孩子们脸上的笑容那样闪耀。那些时刻定义了我心中真正的荣誉：荣誉是默默地帮助他人，关心他人，并运用我们的天赋让世界变得更加美好。
所以，各位哈罗学子，让我们重新定义荣誉。让我们不要只是追求聚光灯，而是成为照亮他人的光。让我们用自己的才华去连接彼此、治愈他人、激励他人。因为最终，我们能够获得的最大荣誉，就是让这个世界变得温暖一点——用一个音符、一个善举，一次又一次地传递温暖。

这一学年就像一场寻宝之旅，满载着等待我们去发掘和回味的美好回忆。它不仅仅关乎课堂学习与作业，更关乎我们如何成长为更好的自己。
在三亚那次精彩的寄宿活动中，我领悟了勇气的真谛。这是我第一次在三亚的海滩上尝试冲浪。面对翻滚的波浪，我起初感到有些胆怯，但在勇敢尝试与不断练习的过程中，我克服了恐惧。这段经历让我明白：勇气并非毫无恐惧，而是在恐惧面前依然勇往直前。

Speech Day从来不是给过去画上句号，而是为未来校准方向。
每一份荣誉的背后，都是无数个日夜的坚持；
每一次掌声的响起，都是对“育以至善，卓以领航”最生动的诠释。
正如Olly Wells校长对所有孩子的期许：
“这个夏天，不妨留一点时间给自己：哪些地方已经做得很好？哪些地方还能再往前一步？当你们把哈罗的价值观刻进本能，未来某一天需要抉择的时刻，它会自动站出来，成为你的指南针。”
The annual Speech Day ceremony arrives each midsummer, in keeping with our long-standing tradition.
Six years since our founding – a milestone, and yet a new beginning.
From our base in Hainan Free Trade Port, Harrow Haikou has made a strategic leap from ‘dynamic international school’ to ‘regional education benchmark’, backed by a series of breakthrough achievements.
Following our COBIS (Council of British International Schools) accreditation in 2025, the school this year officially received WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation, making us the only international school in Hainan and the fourth nationwide to hold both COBIS and WASC K‑12 full‑phase accreditation. This dual‑accreditation system fully opens pathways to universities in the UK and the US, setting a new standard for international education in Hainan.
The Class of 2026 has built on our previous strengths in top UK and US offers, while expanding into Hong Kong (China), Australia, the Netherlands and beyond. 71% of students have received offers from QS World Top 100 universities, including a full‑scholarship offer from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, clear evidence of our pupils’ academic competitiveness.
The school successfully hosted China’s first COBIS Primary Games, bringing together international pupils from 25 countries and regions to Haikou, and jointly winning the overall points championship with Harrow Hong Kong. Our sports teams have expanded to 13 squads, with U12 and U14 boys’ and girls’ teams delivering outstanding performances at the 3rd AISL Harrow Games in Harrow Bangkok, earning wide acclaim for both competitive standards and sportsmanship.
The Pre-Prep’ s English drama Peter Pan and the Upper School’s English musical Annie were performed to great public success, with stage presence and language proficiency highly praised. Charity initiatives jointly driven by Friends of Harrow and student leaders, including the Summer Echo charity concert and the Chinese New Year Temple Fair, raised a total of RMB 141,920.67 for the Hainan Provincial Charity Federation’s ‘CiXin Journey’ programme, putting social responsibility into tangible action.
The school hosted the first bilingual ‘Huasheng Cup’ debate competition within the AISL Harrow family, bringing together sister schools in Haikou to engage in high‑level debate around ‘Telling China’s Story Well’, fostering deeper intercultural understanding and expressive ability.
The tradition of Speech Day has been observed at Harrow for over two hundred years. It is not merely about grades and trophies; it is a solemn tribute to holistic education, a celebration of Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship.
This is a moment of pride unique to Harrow pupils, the highest recognition of a year’s hard work and growth,
and the most vivid testimony to ‘Educational Excellence for Life and Leadership’.

We develop character at AISL Harrow schools through our four values – courage, humility, honour and fellowship.
In sports, athletes train through repeating actions day in and day out to develop muscle memory, so that actions happen automatically. Sport is often so fast, there is no time to think, actions just need to have been trained in so thoroughly, they just happen at the right moment.
In the same way, through practicing how we live our harrow values you are developing a habit that will become automatic. Your character will be embedded into who you are and at the times you need it most, in adult life, it will guide you.
Today in school you are learning, while learning you will make mistakes and in truth this is how we learn. Learning through the reinforcement of feedback, rewarding what you should be doing and giving sanctions for the wrong behaviours, this is normal.
Take time this summer to think about what went well for you and how you could do even better, using the summer to prepare for the new academic year ahead. I wish you all the best for a very busy summer after a demanding year.

The Resonance of Honour
Good morning. I am Elsa from Grade 9.
When we hear the word “honor,” what comes to mind? Is it the gleam of a gold medal? The thunderous applause on a grand stage? Or perhaps the names etched in history books? For a long time, I believed honor was something tangible, like a trophy held high above the crowd. But today, I stand before you to offer a different perspective: True honor is not about standing above others; it is about reaching out to them. It is found not in isolation, but in connection.
Consider the power of music. It is a universal language that breaks down barriers. Think of Beethoven. As the world around him fell into silence, he did not retreat into despair. Instead, he composed the Ode to Joy, choosing to share light and beauty with humanity despite his own darkness. Or consider Yo-Yo Ma, who reminds us that music is simply a way for us to listen to one another, acting as a bridge to solve culture divides, just as he did with his Silk road project. These legends teach us that the highest form of honor is using one’s gifts to bring hope to those in need.
I realized how true this was when i was 11 years old.
I was volunteering at Xinglong Primary School, a campus rebuilt with love and resilience after the devastating Wenchuan earthquake. During my visit, I learned a heartwarming detail: President Xi had personally donated a piano to the children there. This really shows how much the leaders of our country care about the children from remote mountainous areas.
Later that morning, I stood on the open field, facing rows of curious, bright eyes. I began to sing, “Let us sway twin oars.” As the familiar, gentle melody drifted through the air, I watched the children’s faces light up. In that instant, the invisible walls of age, background, and distance dissolved. Music had built a bridge between our hearts.
Later, my friend Yang Zixi sat at that very piano and played the accompaniment for me. As I sang ‘My People, My Country,’ my voice blended with the keys lead to something magical – i wasn’t just performing; I was sharing. I realized then that the true purpose of learning music isn’t about showing off or collecting awards. It is about using your talents to share beauty and bring hope to others.
Over the years, I have been fortunate to receive many awards. Yet, none of them shine as brightly as the smiles of those children at Xinglong Primary. Those moments defined what honor truly means to me: it is about quietly helping others, caring for people, and using our gifts to make the world a better place.
So, fellow Harrovians, let us redefine honor. Let us not just seek the spotlight, but let us be the light for others. Let us use our talents to connect, to heal, and to inspire. Because in the end, the greatest honor we can achieve is to make the world a little warmer, one note, one act of kindness, at a time. Thank you.

▲ This year, the PULSE system has become an integral part of campus life. Each week, children share their feelings, making us feel safe, supported and heard.
▲ Through Harrow Diploma with new experiences, challenges and achievements beyond the classroom, many of us have developed new skills and discovered new interests.
▲ This year, we also began our micro-culture project, helping us to develop better manners, show greater respect for others, and build the habits that help create a positive school community.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but moving forward despite it.”
This school year was like a treasure hunt, full of happy memories waiting for us to discover and reflect on them.
I have learned the true meaning of courage during our wonderful residential trip to Sanya. Although I have serfed numerous times in Haikou, this was the first time I surfed at the beach in Sanya. Facing the rolling waves was intimidating. As I attempted this challenge and kept practising bravely. I also learned how different sea animals move and react when they are haunted by predators, exploring new knowledge with a bold and curious heart. This experience taught me that courage is not the absence of fear, but moving forward despite it. We also participated in a pop quiz all about Sanya’s local culture.
Speech Day is never a full stop on the past, it is a compass for the future.
Behind every honour lie countless days and nights of perseverance;
beneath every round of applause is the most vivid embodiment of ‘Educational Excellence for Life and Leadership’.
As Headmaster Mr. Olly Wells said to all our students:
“Take time this summer to think about what went well for you and how you could do even better. When you have engraved the Harrow Values into your instincts, then on the day you face a crucial choice, they will stand up and be your compass.”
