Grade 1

This week in Grade 1, students developed their critical thinking skills across various subjects. In Literacy, they analysed sentences to determine the correct use of subject and object pronouns, reasoning through different contexts. In Maths, students deepened their understanding of time by setting clocks accurately and justifying their answers when reading and telling the time. During Unit of Inquiry, they explored the concept of habitats, comparing different environments and evaluating why the Grassland is suitable for certain animals.

This week, our Grade 2 class learned to calculate the perimeter of shapes, explore the Earth's rotation and revolution, and use conjunctions to build detailed sentences. These activities encouraged analysis, connections, and clear expression of ideas.

This week in Grade 3, the students have been delving into the topic of fractions, learning how to construct them in written form using a numerator and a denominator, as well as in pictorial form. In terms of the latter, the students investigated how identical fractions can be created using different shapes of various sizes and colours, provided that the segments within each shape are all of equal size.

Grade 2 students learned two classical Chinese poems, "Village Life" and "Praising the Willow", celebrating spring. Students were encouraged to compare the poems' descriptions of spring, analyse the vivid imagery, and discuss how the poets' perspectives differ. 


Grade 6 students learned how to use and analyse language critically. For example, when speaking or writing, they need to use language accurately. When describing a scene, instead of using vague words, choose to use more descriptive vocabulary to depict a more accurate scenario. For example, instead of just saying ‘It’s beautiful,’ students can use phrases like ‘Flowers in full bloom and lush green grass’ to provide a more vivid depiction.

Chinese Maths

Chinese Maths

Grade 1 students explored plane shapes—squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, and parallelograms. They learned about the invention of tangrams and used them creatively to build various shapes. Through hands-on activities, students developed spatial reasoning and critical thinking by analysing the properties of shapes and finding different ways to combine them. 


During the unit on observing objects, Grade 5 students were required to observe three-dimensional shapes from various perspectives. Based on these observations, they needed to judge and visualise the shape and structure of these objects. Students were required to not merely rely on their intuitive perceptions. Instead, reflect on the rationality of the observed phenomena and the relationships among the observation results from different angles. This process encouraged students to actively question and analyse.

Lower Primary practised football skills and basketball skills. During the lesson, students were introduced to dribbling skills and were asked how to apply these skills in a real situation.


Upper Primary have been using their statical thinking skills while learning and playing kickball, a similar game to baseball. Students had to think fast when deciding whether to run to the next base or stay and at times sacrifice themselves for the good of the team.

Their impressive behaviour during dorm hours reflected a strong sense of responsibility and respect for their peers and staff. By engaging in critical thinking skills, they not only enhanced their problem-solving skills but also fostered a collaborative learning environment among themselves.
