Grade 1

Grade 1

This week in Grade 1, students embraced new concepts and explored different ways of thinking. In Literacy, students reinforced their understanding of action verbs and learned about helping verbs, considering how both are used in various contexts. In Maths, students began practising addition and subtraction with three-digit number sentences, and they were encouraged to approach exercises by sorting numbers into the hundreds, tens, and ones columns. In Unit of Inquiry, students explored and researched the jungle habitat, showing an open-minded approach as they crafted diorama jungle habitats and worked on their jungle boards.

Grade 2

This week, students focused on being open-minded. In their Unit of Inquiry, they explored planets and created their own in a fun experiment. In Literacy, they compared fiction and non-fiction, writing their own creative stories. In Math, they began learning about angles and identifying them in our surroundings.

Grade 3

The students have been exploring various types of switches in their Science lessons this week. By looking beyond the conventional light switches and keeping open-minded, they discovered other types with distinct functions. Their curiosity also inspired them to create their own examples using everyday items.

Grade 6A

Students in Grade 6 engaged in a writing exercise by composing narratives about their adventures on the Nautilus. This activity allowed them to craft imaginative stories and allowed them to explore new ideas and perspectives. By assuming the role of Professor Aronnax, students contemplated the mysteries of the deep ocean and the motivations behind his actions through reflective practices, fostering empathy and understanding.

In this unit, students explored how the world works through music. Being open-minded helped them try new sounds, ideas, and tools to improve their final production. They learned that listening to others and experimenting with different styles makes our work unique and exciting.

This week in ICT class, students from Grades 1 through 6 learned Scratch programming and explored Micro:bit with an open mind, embracing new coding challenges and creative problem-solving. By experimenting with different commands and troubleshooting their projects, they developed resilience and confidence in technology. Keeping an open mindset allowed them to discover innovative ways to bring their ideas to life and collaborate effectively with their peers.

Grade 5 engaged in a Chinese character exploration activity this week. They were divided into four groups to study riddles, phonogram characters, and idiomatic phrases. Through hands-on research, students discovered the fun and depth of Chinese characters. Their curiosity and open-minded approach allowed them to uncover the rich cultural heritage behind each character, making learning an exciting journey.


Students have been enhancing their understanding of different interpretations in language and literature, particularly with literary works. In the classic novel ‘Dream of the Red Chamber,’ Lin Daiyu is interpreted differently by readers; some view her as sensitive and suspicious, while others see her as talented and brilliant. These varying perspectives lead to entirely different conclusions. 


Grade 6 students, while studying "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," analysed the text by focusing on characters' actions, expressions, and dialogues. This approach allowed them to explore Tom's character traits from various angles, showcasing their open-minded thinking and diverse interpretations.

In the AL classes, students explored new ideas and approaches, fostering creativity and collaboration in their projects. Grade 5 and Grade 6 students enhanced their critical thinking through examining chemical reactions using baking soda and vinegar. Grade 3 and Grade 4 utilised teamwork and problem-solving skills through innovative creation of motorised cars.

Chinese Maths

Chinese Maths

Grade 2 students delved into the world of shapes and their movements. Students engaged in hands-on activities to learn about symmetry and how shapes can rotate, exploring various items in their daily life. This enhanced their understanding of geometry and encouraged them to see different possibilities in the world around them.    


In Grade 5, students studied the volume of three-dimensional figures by comparing cuboids to real-life objects like boxes and cabinets. They explored how length, width, and height, along with different surfaces, influence volume calculations. This encouraged a deeper understanding of volume as "the amount of space an object occupies."

中文数学


二年级的学生以“图形的运动”为核心内容,认识了轴对称图形与图形的旋转。通过多样化的课堂活动,学生们不仅掌握了相关知识,还培养了开放的思维方式,学会从不同角度观察和理解图形的变化。

P.E.

The Lower Primary students engaged in individual attack and defense exercises in football and basketball. They explored various ways to score from different directions, further enhancing their understanding of varying perspectives through physical activities.


Upper Primary evaluated various perspectives on where to strike the ball in rounders. Students listened to their peers' tactics and began to grow as a team and as individuals through this experience.

Boarding

This week, the PY boarding students demonstrated remarkable open-mindedness during their balloon-popping game, where they had balloons tied around their feet while others tried to pop them. They embraced the rules of the game with enthusiasm, showing a willingness to adapt and enjoy the experience rather than feeling defeated. Their positive attitude fostered a fun and supportive environment, allowing everyone to participate and enjoy the activity together. It was wonderful seeing hem learn the value of teamwork and acceptance while having a great time!
