This week in Grade 1, students strengthened their numerical exploration skills by beginning their journey into fractions, using real-life examples to understand parts of a whole. In Literacy, they explored the world of verb tenses, learning to recognise regular past tense verbs such as like – liked and play – played. In Unit of Inquiry, the new topic of jobs and professions was introduced through inquiry questions and engaging reading materials, sparking curiosity and discussion.

This week in Chinese class, our Grade 2 students embarked on an intriguing exploration with the text "What If You Get Lost in the Wild". Through this, they uncovered hidden treasures in nature that can guide us like a scientific discovery. They learned that the sun, stars, and big trees are natural indicators that help us determine directions. This lesson not only enriched their knowledge of nature but also inspired them to observe and explore the world around them with curiosity.
Through exploration, Grade 1 students uncovered the secrets of spiders. They learned that spider silk is incredibly strong—even stronger than steel! Scientists are studying spider silk to develop new materials, such as durable ropes and even medical bandages. Spiders also benefit us by preying on harmful insects.

They further developed their inquiry and data analysis skills through recording the temperature, precipitation and analysed how climate affects daily life, like clothing choices and outdoor activities.

The Grade 4 students observed the existence of forms of triangles in structures such as bridges and iron towers, 1so as to understand the names of each part of the triangle. Through the experiment of using small sticks to build triangles, we can intuitively feel that the sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the length of the third side, and explore its crucial role in maintaining the stable structure of an object.
Meanwhile, the Grade 2 students embarked on an exciting mathematical journey, exploring numbers up to ten thousand, discovering new counting units. They were also introduced to the abacus as a tool to represent numbers up to 1000. Through hands-on practice, they discovered how this ancient tool works efficiently. They also explored its cultural significance, understanding how it has been used for centuries. This experience helped them appreciate the ingenuity of early mathematical tools.

Upper primary students have been looking at how sports science can help improve athletes and our own performance in sport. Teams looked at their movements as a group in a game situation, sports analysis and how individuals move when performing an action, biomechanics.
