莱克顿Offer捷报|成才的路上,亦成“全人”

 莱克顿不会为学生做决定,

 而是让他们成为能为自己做决定的人。

莱克顿已经跨进了创校的第三年,即将迎来第一批毕业生。在三年的时光里,学校见证了他们从青涩到成熟的转变,从茫然到坚定的成长。这届13年级的学生们正处于紧张的备考和升学的时期,近日,他们已经陆续收到第一批预录取通知书,对于所有莱克顿人来说,这无疑是一个令人振奋的好消息


根据第一批次的录取结果来看,莱克顿创校生表现十分出色,已收到预录取通知书的学生中,75%的学生都收到了至少一份世界排名前100的名校的预录取通知书,所申请专业也都排名靠前。


截至11月18日,学生们陆续收到了来自University of Bristol(布里斯托大学)、University of Southampton(南安普顿大学)、Durham University(杜伦大学)、University of York(约克大学)、University of Reading(雷丁大学)、University of Brighton(布莱顿大学)、University of Surrey(萨里大学)、University of Westminster(威斯敏斯特大学)等多所名校的预录取通知书,涵盖了航空航天工程、心理学、教育、法律、商业管理等专业

Instead of making decisions for our students,

Lucton expects them to be people who can make decisions on their own.

This is the third year since Lucton Shanghai was founded, and Lucton will have its first graduates. The school has witnessed their changes and growths in three years. Recently, there is good news for all Luctonians that students of Year 13, who are preparing for exams and applying for the university, have received their first offer letters.


According to the first patch of offers, our founding students have done very well, with 75 percent of those who have been offered places have received at least one offer from the world's top 100 universities, and the majors they apply for are ranked highly.


Before 18th November, students have been receiving offers from a number of the world-famous universities, including the University of Bristol, the University of Southampton, Durham University, the University of York, the University of Reading, the University of Brighton, the University of Surrey, the University of Westminster, covering the majors in aerospace engineering, psychology, education, law, business administration, etc.

升学指导部总监Ada Zhang女士:

”我们学校的学生大多还是以英联邦国家为主要申请目标国,因此,除了已经陆续收到的一些英国罗素大学集团成员大学(由英国最顶尖的24所世界一流研究型大学组成,是全世界产生诺贝尔奖得主最多的著名高校联盟。)的预录取通知,还有的学生申请的英国G5大学(剑桥大学、牛津大学、帝国理工学院、伦敦大学学院、伦敦政治经济学院并称“G5超级精英”大学,是顶尖的英国研究型大学,代表了英国最高水平的科研实力、师生质量和经济实力),要等到1月左右才会有结果;美国的学校一般最早也要等到12月中旬才会出结果;至于艺术类专业,由于需要审核作品集,流程也比较长;部分学生申请的热门专业,竞争激烈,也需要较长时间才能得到反馈。”

Ms Ada Zhang, Head of University Guidance, said, 


"Most of the students in our school are applying for schools in Commonwealth countries. Some offers that students have received are from Russell Group, which represents 24 leading public research universities in the UK with the largest number of Nobel Prize winners. There are also a number of students applying for G5 universities have to wait until January to get their results. G5 is a grouping of five top research universities in the UK, including the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, University College London and the London School of Economics. It represents the highest level of teaching quality, scientific research and economic strength in the UK. In addition, universities in the United States usually don't issue offer letters until mid-December at the earliest. For art majors, the process will take a long time due to the portfolios need to be well reviewed. And others apply for popular majors, which are highly competitive and take a little bit long time to get feedback. "

显然,还有不少学生的“梦想”仍在途中,莱克顿真心祝贺每一位已经收到预录取通知书的学生,也将和大家一起期待接下来的好消息——翘首以待,静候佳音。

学术副校长Parrish先生:

“我们从13年级的学生那里得到了好消息,他们最近几个月一直在努力完成他们的大学申请。除了取得优异的学术成绩外,学生还必须写一份个人陈述,说明自己为什么要学习他们所申请的专业,并让大学知道他们所参与的所有学术以外的拓展活动。在老师们的指导和支持下,学生通常会修改四到五次的个人陈述。最终得到的是一份完整的申请,一定会给大学招生办公室留下深刻的印象


完成申请后,13年级的学生现在将全神贯注于怎样在一月份参加下一阶段的考试时取得最好的成绩。他们现在经验丰富,因为在12年级时已经经历过A Level的考试,他们充满自信,也准备好面对未来的挑战。而我们现在的12年级学生也将在一月份应试,这将是他们第一次参加A Level考试,他们也很有信心,因为我们的老师一直在不懈努力,以确保学生们能够做好充分的准备来追求最佳的成绩。“

Mr Parrish, the Deputy Head of Academic, said:


"Recently we have had great news from our Year 13 students, they have been working extremely hard in recent months to complete their university applications. As well as achieving excellent academic results, students must write a personal statement which explains why they want to study the course they are applying for and lets the university know about all the extra activities that the they have been involved in. The applications require a great deal of research and work, with the guidance and support of their teachers, students generally redraft their personal statement four or five times. The result is a completed application which will really impress the university admissions office. 


Having completed their applications, Year 13 students are now fully focused on getting the best possible exam results when they sit their next set of exams in January. They are experienced now, having had exams before in Year 12 and they feel confident and well prepared to face the challenges ahead. Our Year 12 students will also be sitting exams in January, it will be the first time for them to sit A Level exams, they too are confident as our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure they are fully prepared to achieve their best."

Students have made great efforts for their dream universities. An offer embodies the hard work of them over the past ten years and it is also their motivation for further study.


However, Luctonians do not limit their goals to offer letters only, nor do they focus their development on scores. Under the philosophy of Lucton whole-person education, the school pursues not only academic success, but more importantly, to cultivate each student into a "whole person" who is self-identified, independent and outstanding. 在我帮助学生准备升学申请的过程中,有的学生目标明确,从一开始就想好了未来的专业,有的需要老师的指导和帮助,慢慢发掘,但总的来看,学生们的专业规划上,一般都是以自己感兴趣的强项为主,这个方向是我很认可的。就近日学生们收到的第一批预录取通知书来看,他们已经取得初步的成功,我们也期待会有更大的惊喜


比如Cathy Z同学,她在IGCSE和A Level阶段都选修了心理学课程,三年以来,成绩优异,在我们一对一沟通升学规划时,她很明确地表示未来要学习心理学专业。她对自己很有信心,因为她本就有着很好的学术基础,我也相信,她未来进入大学能够继续深造。现在Cathy手中已经拿到了一份杜伦大学的预录取通知书了,这所世界百强名校的心理学专业在全英排名前十,是非常不错的选择。”

Ms Ada Zhang said,


"In the process of my helping students prepare for application, some students have clear goals and have a target major from the very beginning. Some need teachers' guidance and help to discover their goals. Generally speaking, students' academic planning is based on the strengths they are interested in, which I strongly agree with. Students have achieved initial success from the offers they had, and we are looking forward to more big surprises for the next.


Take Cathy Z as an example. She has taken psychology courses in both IGCSE and A Level with excellent performances in the past three years. When we discussed about the plan, she made it very clear that her target major was psychology. Because she already has a good academic foundation, and she has great confidence in her future study of psychology. I also believe that she will perform very well in the university. Cathy already has got an offer from Durham University, which is one of the world's top 100 universities. This is a very good choice as psychology in Durham is ranked in the top 10 in the UK."

Cathy Z自述:我一开始对心理学没有太多的了解,当然也不会那么早就定下未来的专业目标。不过来到莱克顿之后,抱着感兴趣的态度选修了心理学课程后,就喜欢上了这门科目我的心理学启蒙老师,Neil Clayton先生的课堂真的非常有趣,正是在这之后,我喜欢上了这门学科,也逐渐了解到心理学对人类的帮助和它在社会上的作用,在我日常的生活中也希望有专业的心理咨询能够帮助我,推己及人,我就萌生了做一名心理咨询师的想法。所以我希望能够在大学继续学习这门学课,去实现我未来的职业梦想。

Cathy Z: I didn't know much about Psychology at the beginning, but when I came to Lucton to study Psychology course, under the guidance of Mr Neil Clayton, my first Psychology teacher, whose classes were really interesting, I fell in love with this course. I also gradually understand the benefits of psychology to human beings and its role in society. In my daily life, I would like to have a professional psychologist who can help me, in the same way, I also hope to be able to help others, so I have the idea of being a psychologist. Therefore, I hope I can continue to study this course in university to realize my dream.

”再比如Bruce M同学,这是一个成绩优秀,性格稳重的孩子。在准备升学的过程中,起初,他对自己的专业目标没有明确的想法,我和他聊过很多次,他都表示,对物理最感兴趣,于是我们对物理下的各个分支一一分析,最终根据他自身的学术能力和兴趣爱好,选择了航空航天工程专业,这是对学生学术成绩有着极高要求的专业,更是需要学生热爱并愿意持之以恒去钻研的学科。在他申请的五所大学中,他已经拿到了布里斯托大学和南安普顿大学的预录取通知书,这两所大学的航空航天专业分别在英国排名第二和前十,大家都为他感到非常高兴。“

Ms Ada Zhang said, "Bruce M is a student with excellent grades and a stable personality. In preparation, he didn’t have a clear idea about his goals at first. I talked to him many times, and he showed that he was most interested in physics, so we analyzed each branch under Physics, and finally chose Aerospace Engineering based on his academic ability and hobbies. This is a major that have extremely high requirements for students' academic performance, and it requires students to love it and be willing to persevere in studying it. Among the five universities he applied to, he now has received offers from the University of Bristol and the University of Southampton. The Aerospace majors of these two universities are ranked second and top 10 in the UK, and everyone is delighted for him."

Bruce M自述:我在A Level阶段选修的是数学、物理、计算机科学,所以在考虑未来的专业时,我希望我所学的科目都能有所帮助,所以起初就选定了工程类专业的大方向。而我自己从小就很喜欢科幻,尤其是作家刘慈欣的作品,喜欢探索宇宙和未知,所以最后选择了航空航天工程专业,我向每一所有意向的大学申请的都是航空航天工程专业。

Bruce M: I took Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at A Level study. When considering my target major, I hoped that all the subjects I had learned could be useful. Therefore, I chose engineering as my main direction at the beginning. In addition, I have been fond of science fiction since childhood, especially the works of Cixin Liu have deeply influenced me. Exploring the universe and the unknown has always been my dream, so I finally chose Aerospace Engineering as my major. In each university I applied to, the major was Aerospace Engineering.
