本期MACDUFFIE学子专访，我们邀请到了在申请季陆续收获到帝国理工学院、伦敦政治经济学院、香港大学、南洋理工大学4所世界名校录取捷报的Leo张同学来分享申请经验。

In this edition of MACDUFFIE's student interview, we have invited Leo , who has been successfully admitted by Imperial College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, University of Hong Kong and Nanyang Technological University, to share his application experience.

个人简介

Leo，上海美达菲23届毕业班学生。2023年放榜季，凭借自己出色的成绩拿到帝国理工（QS世界大学排名TOP6）、伦敦政治经济（QS世界大学排名TOP56）、港大（QS世界大学排名TOP21）、南洋理工（QS世界大学排名TOP12）4所世界名校录取Offer。

Leo, a graduating student of the Class of 23 of Shanghai MacDuffie. In the ranking season of 2023, I got offers from four world famous universities, namely Imperial College London (QS World University Ranking TOP6), London Political Economy (QS World University Ranking TOP56), the University of Hong Kong (QS World University Ranking TOP21) and Nanyang Technological University (QS World University Ranking TOP12).

在美达菲的学习时光，Leo同学脚踏实地走好每一步，解锁了属于自己的这份青春岁月。

During the study time in MacDuffie, Leo took every step down to earth and unlocked his own youth.

Q：恭喜你拿到了非常好的Offer，准备去哪里就读？可以介绍下分别都申请了哪些专业？

Congratulations on your excellent Offer. Where are you going to study? Can you introduce the majors you have applied for respectively?

A：帝国理工的数学统计与金融，伦敦政治经济学院的统计与金融，港大的理学士，南洋理工的数学科学和经济。

Mathematical Statistics and Finance from Imperial College, Statistics and Finance from London School of Economics and Political Science, Bachelor of Science from the University of Hong Kong, Mathematical Sciences and Economics from Nanyang Technological University.

目前最向往的大学是帝国理工学院。首先，帝国理工学院无论在排名上还是名声上都相对较好；其次，我申请的专业虽然与金融相关，但课程设置上主要还是数学的内容，帝国理工学院在理工方面都要强于其他学校。因此，我最向往的学校还是帝国理工学院。

By far the most desirable university is Imperial College London. First of all, Imperial College is relatively good in both rankings and reputation; Secondly, although the major I applied for is related to finance, the curriculum mainly focuses on mathematics. Imperial College London is better than other universities in science and technology. Therefore, my favorite school is Imperial College London.

Q：最初是怎样坚定选择出国留学这条路的？对于一些迷茫和纠结是否选择留学的学弟学妹你有什么建议吗？

How did you decide to study abroad in the first place? Do you have any advice for those who are confused about whether to choose to study abroad?

A：初中的时候，在暑假期间，我的父母经常给我报名参加一些游学项目，进入一些国外的初高中学习一周。并在途中参观了很多名校，感受到了这些大学浓厚的学习氛围和学生们灵活，自由的生活。我十分向往去体验这样的大学生活，因此萌生出了出国留学的念头。在这期间，我的父母也给我提供了很多的帮助，在与我们的想法达成一致后，最终，我们选择了出国留学这条升学路。

When I was in junior high school, during the summer vacation, my parents often signed me up for some study Tours to some foreign middle and high schools for a week. On the way, I visited many famous universities and felt the strong learning atmosphere of these universities and the flexible and free life of the students. I am eager to experience such a college life, so I have the idea of studying abroad. During this period, my parents also provided me with a lot of help. After reaching an agreement with us, we finally chose to study abroad for further study.

给学弟学妹的建议是：如果有出国留学的念头，就可以进行自己的一些探索，在了解了大致情况和有了一定的目标之后，一定要向父母提出自己的想法，相信父母都会考虑我们的感受。出国留学可以打开我们的眼界，只要我们学习态度是好的，对学术是热爱的，我们一定也能在出国留学的道路上走远。坚定你们留学的想法，你们会看到不一样的世界。

My advice to my younger brother and sister is: if you have the idea of studying abroad, you can carry out some of your own exploration, after understanding the general situation and have a certain goal, you must put forward your own ideas to your parents, I believe that parents will consider our feelings. Studying abroad can open our eyes. As long as we have a good learning attitude and love for academics, we can certainly go far on the road of studying abroad. Stay committed to studying abroad and you will see a different world.

Q：进入国际学校后，你觉得国际学校的学习氛围和体制内有什么不同？

After entering an international school, what do you think are the differences in the learning atmosphere and system of international schools?

A：我觉得国际学校的学习氛围整体比较轻松，和以前初中在体制内还是有很大不一样的，特别是在美达菲的校园中，有丰富多彩的社团活动和校园活动，这些活动都极大地丰富了我的课外生活。从进入美达菲到现在，因为我比较热爱数学，所以对我印象比较深刻的是数学日的活动，我能从中学习到更多关于数学的知识，也能将数学巧妙地与生活相结合。

I think the learning atmosphere of international school is relatively relaxed, which is quite different from that of junior high school in the past. In particular, there are various club activities and campus activities in Macduffie campus, which have greatly enriched my extracurricular life. Since I study in MacDuffie, I love mathematics, so I am deeply impressed by the activities of Math Day, from which I can learn more knowledge about mathematics and skillfully combine mathematics with life.

Q：申请过程中你有什么难忘的经历？美达菲的升学老师给了你哪些支持和帮助？

What memorable experience did you have during the application process? What kind of support and assistance did MacDuffie's college teachers give you?

A：申请过程中最难忘的经历还是在准备剑桥大学申请的过程，准备剑桥大学的申请是一个非常复杂的过程，在这期间会有很多的惊喜和意外。在准备的过程中会因为模拟面试的表现时而开心或者难过。因此，在这期间，学校老师也给我提供了非常多的帮助，帮助我递交大学的申请，给我进行1V1的模拟面试等等。虽然，我最终还是没能进入剑桥大学，但在准备的过程中学到了很多，也十分享受准备的过程。

The most memorable experience during the application process was the preparation for the application to the University of Cambridge. Preparing for the application to the University of Cambridge is a very complicated process, during which there will be many surprises. During the preparation process, I was sometimes happy or sad because of my performance in the mock interview. Therefore, during this period, my school teachers also provided me with a lot of help, such as helping me submit my university application, giving me a mock 1V1 interview and so on. Although I didn't get into Cambridge University in the end, I learned a lot during the preparation and enjoyed it very much.

Q：在美达菲的日子里哪些人或事给你留下了深刻的印象？当初为什么会选择美达菲？

Who or what impressed you during your time with MacDuffie? Why did you choose MacDuffie?

A：虽然我来到上海美达菲仅有一年多的时间，但快要到毕业了还是充满了留恋和不舍。在这里留下的足迹会跟随我一路到大学，我会一直秉持着“怀中国心，做世界人”的初衷继续开启我的求学之路。在申请季，跟我接触的最多的除了我的老师以外就是升学指导的王老师，她在申请季给了我很多方面的建议和帮助，并抽出了很多自己宝贵的时间来帮我递交材料等等，我在申请时比较薄弱的环节就是我的语言成绩，也是她一直督促我加强我语言类的学习。

Although I have only been in Shanghai MacDuffie for more than a year, I am still full of nostalgia and reluctance to give up when I graduate. The footprints left here will follow me all the way to the university. I will continue to open my study road with the original intention of "having a Chinese heart and being a global person". In the application season, apart from my teacher, Miss Wang, the college entrance advisor, contacted me most. During the application season, she gave me advice and help in many aspects, and devoted a lot of her precious time to help me submit materials. My weak link in the application was my language score, and she urged me to strengthen my language study.

当时是在找国际学校看了很多家，后来我父母有朋友推荐我到上海美达菲来，我们来实地了解参观后发现这里的环境真的很不错，有点符合我小时候在国外游学时参观的一些大学校园环境的氛围。另外，美达菲的课程和资质都很齐全，这也是我父母比较放心的一点。来到学校后发现不论是从学习环境到生活起居我都很满意，也能很快地适应。还有和蔼可亲的刘校长经常抽时间对我进行数学辅导，这也是我选择数学专业和爱上数学的一大理由。

At that time, I was looking for a lot of international schools. Later, a friend of my parents recommended me to Shanghai MacDuffie. After a field visit, we found that the environment here was really good, which somewhat matched the atmosphere of some university campuses I visited when I was a child. In addition, the courses and qualifications of MacDuffie are complete, which is also a point of confidence for my parents. After coming to the school, I found that I was very satisfied with both the learning environment and daily life, and I could quickly adapt to it. Moreover, the amiable principal Liu often takes time to tutor me in mathematics, which is also a big reason why I choose mathematics as my major and fall in love with mathematics.

Q：对于自己的未来，你有哪些规划呢？

What are your plans for your future?

A：在我未来的规划中，我还是想要从事金融相关的职业，因此，我对我的规划都大致与这个方向相关。首先，在本科期间，我想通过学习数学统计的知识来为自己未来的职业发展打下坚实的基础。然后，在研究生期间，转到金融行业来学习具体的行业知识。在本科和研究生期间进行多个实习来帮助自己在未来毕业后拿到更好的工作机会。我相信，在未来的规划中，我可以按照我的规划来一步一步的达成自己的目标。

In my future plan, I still want to be engaged in a career related to finance, so my plan is roughly related to this direction. First of all, I want to lay a solid foundation for my future career development by learning mathematical statistics during my undergraduate study. Then, during the postgraduate period, I will transfer to the financial industry to learn the specific knowledge of the industry. Do multiple internships during my undergraduate and graduate years to help me get better job opportunities after graduation. I believe that in the future planning, I can achieve my goal step by step according to my plan.

Leo's story is also the epitome of the growth story of every MacDuffie student. Every student is taking every step seriously, not setting limits for themselves, and finally walking to the road of dream with strength.

哪有什么“天生学霸”，一切都只是厚积薄发。Leo同学非常谦虚，他说自己并不是天赋异禀的人，只是有着一股向上的劲，朝着目标坚定执着而坚定的前行。那些熬过的夜，刷过的题，都会铺成一条宽阔的路，带我们走到想去的地方。

There is no such thing as a "natural overachiever", it's all about accumulation. Leo is very modest, he said that he is not a gifted person, just has a upward momentum, towards the goal of firm persistent and firm forward. Those through the night, brush the problem, will be paved into a wide road, take us to where we want to go.

在美达菲，有很多同学跟Leo一样，他们在这里成长，在这里进步；他们从这里出发，昂首阔步，走向世界。

In MacDuffie, there are many students like Leo. They grow up here and make progress here. From here, they marched out into the world.
