Tuesday Talk – Y6 to Y7 Transition 周二讲座-小升初衔接

On the vast majority of Tuesdays at NAIS Pudong we hold a dedicated Talk for parents, with each session focusing on an educational or other topic relevant to our community. Various members of the academic and leadership team will talk to parents of our children about their education, how the school delivers lessons, and to parents of primary school students about the school's activities for students and their significance, helping them to gain insight into how their child explores learning at school through play and other communication.


We also talk to parents of older children about mental health education, college application advice, and curriculum choices, with our aim being to increase parental involvement in their children's learning journey so that the whole family can receive better support and assistance.


This week, we invited in parents from Upper Key Stage 2 to understand more about the transition of students from the final year of Primary (Year 6) into the first year of Secondary (Year 7).  We explained about the steps we’ve taken to incorporate Year 6 classrooms into the secondary school building to help students become familiar with the setting, teachers and other students in school. 



We also communicated with parents about the differences between Primary and Secondary teaching and learning to help them understand the upcoming changes in the school day, lesson formats, teaching styles, homework capacity, communication methods, and a variety of other areas where changes will be noticeable.



Finally, we introduced the secondary school curriculum and activity arrangements to enhance parents' participation in their children's learning process, reduce the gap between home and school, and promote children's all-round development.


Parents are an integral part of a child's education, so we emphasise the importance of strong communication between home and school, which helps both parents and the school to better understand each other's expectations and needs, to minimise possible differences in education, and to formulate education plans in a more targeted manner.



Such effective communication provides both parties with more resources and support to empower students and parents to achieve long-term success, thereby contributing to the holistic development of children. 


We look forward to more sessions over the coming weeks and months, including March Tuesday Talks on ‘Our Curriculum’, ‘Y4+Y5 Residential Trips’, ‘Languages’, and ‘CCS Parent Workshops,’ invites for which will be sent to all relevant parents ahead of time.
