With collaboration from the Women Empowerment Council (WEC), Girls in STEMM aims to close the gender gap in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) fields by encouraging girls to participate in STEMM subjects from an early age, showing them how STEMM is applied in practice, and introducing them to successful women in these fields.
The girls learn about STEMM companies, connect with female leaders and role models, and experience tailored content prepared by staff. This includes interactive workshops, leader presentations, office/lab/tech-centre tours, panel discussions, and more.
The companies visited this year include FedEx, Henkel, Merck, Microsoft, and ExxonMobil.
During the FedEx visit in Shanghai, the girls had the chance to see the unique sort system and were amazed by its scale. They also toured an aircraft model and experienced being pilots through flight simulation.
At Henkel, the girls witnessed a brand-new research laboratory, just before it opened for public visits. They participated in a laboratory session where they could create their own toiletries.
The Merck visit involved a series of inspirational talks and group interactions with company representatives.
The Microsoft visit featured an exploration and introduction to AI technology and software, such as Copilot and AI-generated drawing.
This week, our girls participated in the STEMM graduation ceremony. We hope they carry the knowledge and strength of women, influencing themselves and many other women in the future, becoming role models and shaping the future. Congratulations to them all.
