At Huayao Collegiate, daily meetings about teaching and operations are the norm. However, in early November, one unique student-led meeting captured the attention of senior leaders. This "students on stage, principals in the audience" meeting was organised by three passionate Grade 11 students—founders of the student club KASHFLOW.

The students presented their ambitious plan for the upcoming "Monopoly Challenge HC" (Huayao Economics and Finance Simulation Challenge), seeking guidance and support from school leadership. They outlined the event’s details, from issuing the virtual currency "Huayao Coins" to creating complex financial transaction systems. The plan also emphasised fostering interaction, cooperation, and competition among participants.

12月3日，狄邦华曜学校荣幸地迎来了美国前任州长彼得·舒姆林州长（Governor Peter Shumlin）的访问，这位在佛蒙特州教育和创业领域有着深厚背景的领导者。在访问期间，KASHFLOW社团有幸与舒姆林州长会面，向他详细介绍了社团的运作和即将举办的Monopoly Challenge挑战赛。此外，学生们还向州长展示了他们最新开发的股票记账系统。舒姆林州长对社团的创新精神和专业能力给予了高度认可和赞扬，他认为这些活动不仅富有趣味，而且展现了学生们的专业素养。

Upon learning about the operations of the KASHFLOW club, the school leadership gave high praise and expressed strong support, actively mobilizing various resources to assist in the development of students.

On December 3rd, Huayao Collegiate was honored to welcome former Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, a leader with extensive experience in education and entrepreneurship. During his visit, the KASHFLOW club had the privilege of meeting Governor Shumlin and presenting him with detailed insights into the club’s operations and the upcoming Monopoly Challenge competition. Students also showcased their newly developed stock accounting system. Governor Shumlin highly commended the club’s innovative spirit and professional capabilities, noting that these activities were not only engaging but also demonstrated the students' professionalism.

To further ignite students' passion for learning and unlock their research potential, Huayao Collegiate invited Assistant Professor Ms. Luyao Zhang from Duke Kunshan University to deliver a lecture on campus. This valuable exchange provided the KASHFLOW club with expert guidance from Professor Zhang, broadening their horizons and deepening their understanding of potential university research paths. Professor Zhang has also expressed her willingness for ongoing interactions with the KASHFLOW club, offering robust support and encouragement for members’ academic exploration and career development.

“在学校，经济学课程通常是用英文教授的，这对于英语水平不够自信的同学来说，可能难以完全理解课程内容。”为了解决这个问题，Johnny决定在KASHFLOW经济学社团课中用中文重新讲解那些复杂的经济理论，为低年级学者们提供一个更加亲切和易于理解的学习环境。

他总是能够用生动的例子和浅显的语言，将经济学的复杂概念变得简单易懂。“在Johnny的课上，我能够更好地理解之前在英文课上学到的知识。”Yuyang，一位低年级社员这样说道。

Johnny, a founding student of Huayao Collegiate, embodies the school’s ethos of holistic education. 

Beyond excelling academically, he plays a leading role in various campus activities, including his presidency of KASHFLOW. His goal is to spark students’ interest in economics and financial literacy through engaging initiatives like the Monopoly Challenge HC. 

One of Johnny’s innovative ideas is “Lunch with the Governor of Huayao Central Bank,” where students can use virtual currency to purchase the opportunity to discuss international financial trends with him. “I want this activity to be fun while helping students grasp the practical workings of money and markets,” he explained.

As an economics mentor during Life Block sessions, Johnny bridges the gap between complex theories and accessible learning. By re-explaining class content in Chinese, he ensures younger students gain confidence and clarity in understanding challenging material.

 “Economics courses are often taught in English, which can be tough for some students,” Johnny noted. “Simplifying these concepts in Chinese has helped them build a strong foundation.”

很难想象在讲台上用英文侃侃而谈的女生才刚转到狄邦华曜学校2个多月。尽管是新面孔，Charcy很快就融入了学校的氛围，并积极参与到社团活动中，她发现这里的学生和老师都非常支持创新和自主学习。

Charcy曾就读于上海一所著名的A-level学校，为了实现创办社团的愿望并追求更全面的成长，她选择在十一年级转入狄邦华曜学校，开启新的学术旅程。

来到狄邦华曜后不久，Charcy就了解到同年级的Johnny和她有着同样的志向，她看到了一个全新的舞台，可以尽情展示自己的才华和创造力。

“我一直觉得经济学不仅是一门学科，更是一种思维方式。”Charcy说，“我希望通过社团活动，帮助同学们更好地理解经济现象，培养对经济学的兴趣。”

在社团的创立过程中，Charcy不仅负责组织和策划活动，还亲自制作了详细的课件，确保每一堂社团课都能深入浅出地讲解经济学的核心概念。她利用自己在经济学课程中所学的知识，结合生活中的实际例子，使复杂的经济理论变得生动有趣。

“我发现A-level学的知识在AP课程中也非常有用。”Charcy说，“许多经济学的基本概念和分析方法是相通的，这让我在准备AP课程时更加得心应手。”

Although Charcy has been at Huayao Collegiate for just two months, she has already made a strong impression with her fluency in English and enthusiasm for economics. 

A transfer student from a top A-level school in Shanghai, Charcy was drawn to Huayao Collegiate by its focus on innovation and student-led initiatives.

Not long after joining Huayao Collegiate, Charcy found out that Johnny, a peer, harbored the same ambitions. She glimpsed a fresh canvas where she could freely express her talents and creative spirit.

“Economics isn’t just a subject; it’s a way of thinking,” Charcy said. Through her leadership in KASHFLOW, she helps demystify economic principles, making them engaging and relatable. Leveraging her A-level background, she creates detailed lesson plans with real-life examples to bring theory to life.

Despite initial challenges like designing activities and attracting members, Charcy sees every obstacle as an opportunity for growth. 

“Each attempt has taught me valuable lessons,” she said. Her dedication has not only deepened her understanding of economics but also sharpened her organisational and communication skills.

有了一拍即合的想法，Brian和几位主创的想法逐渐壮大，他们甚至拍摄了一个宣传片，希望能吸引更多学者的参与。然而，随着项目的推进，他们发现资源有限，人手不足，导致初期的计划难以实现。“我们意识到，只有几个人是不够的，我们需要更多的支持和资源。”Brian说。

尽管面临挑战，Brian并没有放弃。他和团队成员共同努力，逐步完善社团的活动计划，确保每一项活动都有明确的目标和具体的执行步骤。通过向学校高层领导汇报演示社团的想法，KASHFLOW社团也在困境中逐渐明确了未来的活动方向。

Brian, another founding student, juggles his passion for economics and biomedical sciences while preparing for competitive exams and club activities. Though undecided about his future path, Brian values the leadership and teamwork skills he has gained through KASHFLOW.

Initially, the club aimed to help classmates excel in AP Economics, but the team soon realised they could combine theory with practical applications. “We wanted to make economics exciting and relevant while enhancing our college applications,” Brian shared.

Brian, with his diverse interests, is juggling a lot of competitions this school year. He's learning to manage his time to balance academics with club activities, which will be a valuable skill for his future.

“The school gives us a lot of freedom in our schedule, so we have plenty of time for our own projects,” Brian explained.

除了日常在Life Block授课，Anton还负责社团的数据统计工作。他通过Excel表格管理和分析玩家数据，确保每个参与者都能清晰地了解自己的账户情况。“一开始我对Excel也不是太熟悉，但为了处理玩家数据，让社团活动有序推进，有一天我花了整整一天的时间，学习和研究了Excel的高级技能。”Anton说。

数据的复杂性源于对真实世界的探索，KASHFLOW所涵盖的金融知识远远超出了AP课程和考试的范畴。“在课堂上，我们未曾接触过股票和基金，但我们还研究了ETF并将其融入我们的挑战赛中。”Anton解释说。通过创建社团，学生们得以依据内驱力，对现实问题进行更深层次的探索和研究。

Anton transferred to Huayao Collegiate mid-Grade 10, drawn by its open and self-directed learning environment. Though adapting from the IGCSE to AP curriculum was a challenge, Anton quickly found his footing.

Switching schools has done more than just change Anton's course load; it's made him think harder about what he wants in the future. With less stress from schoolwork, Anton has had more time to run events and see the world in a new way. This has helped him figure out who he is and where he's headed.

In KASHFLOW, Anton oversees data management, using advanced Excel skills to track player transactions. "I wasn’t familiar with Excel at first, but I dedicated a day to learning it," he said. This hands-on experience allowed him to explore real-world financial scenarios beyond the AP syllabus, such as ETFs and fund management.

Anton thrives in collaborative brainstorming sessions, where team innovation transforms daunting tasks into manageable projects. He plans to pursue economics in college, using his club experience to showcase his leadership and problem-solving abilities.
