Last weekend saw our students take part in a number of competitive activities across a variety of areas, both in and out of China. Firstly, we must say a huge congratulations to Boxun for his outstanding performance at a FOBISIA swimming event in Thailand. Not only was he the Number 1 swimmer in his age group across the event, but he took away six gold medals and one silver across a variety of swim styles and distances, trouncing rivals by several seconds in some events.
During the same weekend, several students werealso taking part in a Badminton Invitational event. Sarah – fresh fromher impressive performance in the U13 girls’ singles the day before – teamed upwith Bella in the U15 girls’ doubles, securing 4th place across acompetitive sector. Eashan competed in the boys’ U15 singles while Tylerand Eli took part in the boys’ U19 doubles.
Sarah had this to say about her experience:
“With around 200 players participating, the competition was intense, but it was also an incredible experience for me. I competed in both women’s singles and doubles, and while it was challenging, it was also a lot of fun. On the first day, playing singles, I was really nervous. Seeing so many talented players around me was intimidating but once I started playing, I felt more relaxed and focused on the game rather than the pressure.
The second day was doubles, and I partnered with Bella. Unfortunately, we had no practice before our first match as my usual partner wasn’t available. As soon as we arrived, we had to jump straight into our match, which didn’t go too well due to our inexperience as partners. We persisted through and continued more games together.
Overall, this tournament was an amazing experience, and it was definitely a great introduction to playing doubles together for the first time. Even though Bella and I had our struggles, I learned a lot about teamwork, strategy, and how badminton isn’t just about skill—it’s about communication, adaptability, and having fun.”
We Celebrate all their courage and achievements!
