From 11 to 13 March 2025, a group of our creative students had the incredible opportunity to participate in a the NAE Regional Performing Arts Festival in Shanghai alongside 11 Nord Anglia schools from across China! With over 475 young artists immersing themselves in drama, dance, music, puppetry, short film making, physical theatre, and more, the festival was a true celebration of creativity and collaboration.
The festival’s philosophy extends beyond art itself. By offering diverse artistic experiences, it provides students with a unique platform to build confidence, enhance teamwork, and expand their social networks. Whether they are first-time performers or seasoned artists, every participant discovers their potential and pushes beyond their limits. As one student shared, “On the first day, the task seemed impossible, but by the third day, we not only did it—we excelled!” This transformation from doubt to confidence is the most valuable gift the festival offers.
Cross-School Collaboration
Over the three-day festival, students from different schools formed teams to participate in workshops ranging from choir and symphony to physical arts, drama, dance, and traditional Chinese music. Together, they brought creative ideas to life on stage. This cross-cultural collaboration not only honed their communication and teamwork skills but also taught them the importance of listening, supporting, and embracing diversity. A student from Beijing remarked, “I joined out of curiosity, but I ended up exploring new art forms and making friends from other schools.”
This year’s festival emphasised a “student-led” approach. From designing the main visuals to managing stage technology, students took centre stage in organising the event, showcasing their creativity and practical skills. Their deep involvement not only allowed their talents to shine but also enhanced their problem-solving abilities, sense of responsibility, and initiative. The success of the grand finale was a testament to their hard work and collaboration under the guidance of teachers.
The true significance of the NAE Performing Arts Festival lies in its ability to cultivate students’ soft skills — confidence, collaboration, and communication— through the medium of art. The festival is non-competitive, encouraging every student to step out of their comfort zone and express themselves. Regardless of their artistic background, students find their place on stage, learning to tackle challenges, solve problems, and work with others. These skills are far more valuable than artistic techniques alone.
The NAE Performing Arts Festival is not just a performance showcase but a profound exploration of confidence, collaboration, and personal growth. Art is not the end goal but a bridge that ignites students’ passion, nurtures their team spirit, and builds their social skills, laying a solid foundation for their future development.
As the festival advocates, “Art is just the beginning; growth is the ultimate goal.” Here, every student finds their own light and prepares for the grand stage of life. The NAE Performing Arts Festival continues to empower the next generation of leaders through art, guiding them toward a brighter and broader future.
Guided by expert mentors, NAIS Pudong students honed their skills, made lifelong friendships, and took part in arts-inspired activities that made the experience both fun and inspiring. The festival concluded with a spectacular showcase, broadcast live from the stunning theatre stage, leaving everyone in awe of the talent and passion on display.
A huge congratulations to all the students and staff who participated, you've made us so proud!
