Congratulations to NAIS Pudong's Charlie from Year 10, who recently achieved an A* in IGCSE Mathematics as an early entry candidate, sitting his exam a full year ahead of his peers.
This outstanding result reflects not only Charlie’s talented ability, but also the way our school supports and challenges academically gifted students to reach their highest potential.
Charlie joined our school in 2021 and quickly demonstrated his exceptional talent in Mathematics. His success came through a thoughtful approach to learning, focusing on understanding concepts rather than relying on memorisation. With the guidance of his teachers, Charlie developed the ability to apply his knowledge to complex problems and refined his skills with past paper practice.
Beyond the classroom, Charlie is a well-rounded student who contributes to school life in many ways. He has taken part in international competitions such as the American Mathematics Competition and the Waterloo Mathematics and Computing Contest, and has also represented the school on the basketball and volleyball teams.
At NAIS Pudong, we are proud to offer a clear Maths Pathway for students who excel in this subject. Talented mathematicians are identified during Key Stage 3, offered the chance to take IGCSE Mathematics early in Year 10, and then progress on to IBDP Higher Level Mathematics. Many of our students follow this pathway through to graduation, going on to study at top universities around the world.
Looking ahead, Charlie will continue to challenge himself by taking IBDP Higher Level Mathematics, with ambitions to pursue a mathematics-related degree at university. His journey shows what can be achieved when talent, curiosity and support come together.
We are proud of Charlie’s remarkable achievement and look forward to following his success in the years ahead.
Congratulations to Aomi, who recently achieved an A* in IGCSE French and an A* in IGCSE Foreign Language Mandarin, after joining NAIS Pudong just two years ago in Year 10.
As a true third culture student, Aomi has grown up surrounded by languages, with Japanese and Spanish at home, English becoming fluent during her time here, and summers and weekends dedicated to French and Mandarin. This global upbringing gave her both the passion and the discipline to excel. With support from her parents, teachers and a natural drive to immerse herself in new cultures, Aomi not only mastered the curriculum but also discovered a lifelong love for languages.
At school, Aomi contributes far beyond the classroom. She is active in Model United Nations, student leadership and several sports teams, showing her commitment to building bridges between people in many different ways.
Currently, Aomi is preparing for the HSK 5 exam in Chinese, DELF B2 in French and JLPT in Japanese, with the ambition of mastering the five languages she speaks now and one day expanding to Arabic or Russian. Her long-term goal is to speak and culturally understand the seven official UN languages, opening doors to a career in international relations and global peacekeeping.
Aomi’s achievement demonstrates how NAIS Pudong nurtures students with unique talents, encouraging them to thrive academically while also preparing them to make a difference in the world.
We are proud of Aomi’s remarkable success and excited to see where her passion for languages will lead.
