On November 11th, G9 Biology students from our school, led by Ms. Mandy and Mr. James Armitage, visited the Hydrographic and Water Resources Management Affairs Center of Pudong Shanghai for a water ecology-themed field trip. As a first-class public welfare institution in Pudong New Area, the center mainly undertakes hydrological and water quality monitoring as well as ecological environment research, providing a professional practical platform for this field study.

During the visit, students entered water quality testing laboratories, grouped into dedicated areas for heavy metal and organic matter detection. Guided by engineers, they learned experimental principles, gained insight into this critical research aided by cutting-edge water testing equipment and optimized sampling tools, and deeply connected classroom theories with professional experimental operations. In the outdoor session, students had immersive hands-on experience in water level measurement, simulating the daily work of outdoor water quality workers. Combined with a life-oriented water ecology lecture, they not only mastered the whole process of water quality monitoring clearly but also integrated textbook biology knowledge with practical application, further consolidating their knowledge framework.
This field study allowed students to step out of the classroom and perceive the practical value of ecological knowledge from an engineer’s perspective. It not only enhanced their awareness and ability to save water resources and protect water ecology but also deepened their sense of responsibility for ecological protection, injecting practical motivation into their subsequent Biology learning.
