「A Small Act of Love」

As Christmas and New Year approach, the year 2025 is gradually drawing to a close. At this pivotal point in the academic term, SMCS held a student assembly to systematically review students' performance in learning, campus activities, and daily conduct over the past months, while also clarifying key academic priorities and directions for growth in the period ahead.

The assembly focused on AI-empowered learningcampus lifebehavioral expectations, and university admissions progress, aiming to help students move forward with clearer goals and a more mature mindset as they prepare for upcoming major examinations and critical stages in their academic and admissions journeys.

The assembly began with an introduction to the upcoming AI Innovation Workshop. In his opening remarks, Principal Owen pointed out that:

In the context of rapid AI development, relying solely on exam drills and repetitive practice is no longer sufficient to meet future academic and career challenges.

Even students with strong academic results may gradually lose competitiveness if they lack independent learning skills and practical experience.

Against this backdrop, the AI Workshop is designed around real-world application scenarios. It encourages students to understand the logic and limitations of AI and to learn how to apply AI technologies to solving real business problems, fostering a shift in mindset from simply "using tools" to actively "solving problems."

Supported by industry-backed training and competition frameworks, students will have opportunities to earn awards jointly issued by the school and Baidu, building strong and credible AI project outcomes to support university applications. At the same time, they will enhance learning efficiency and develop independent learning skills, moving from passively completing tasks to proactively identifying and addressing problems.

Students may register for the AI Workshop through their homeroom teachers. Detailed arrangements and follow-up training information will be communicated by the homeroom teachers in due course. Interested students are encouraged to plan their time accordingly.

Focusing on students' holistic development, the school systematically promotes student growth and class community building through three key dimensions:

authentic participationstage-based evaluation, and continuous reflection.

「A Small Act of Love」Gratitude Month Awards

Recently, SMCS launched the "Gratitude Month" family engagement challenge. Students and parents completed activities based on tasks drawn during the previous mid-term parent meeting and documented the entire process, responding to the meaning of companionship through action.

Through what may seem like a small act, students captured genuine and delicate moments spent with their families—from shared outings and cultural experiences to thoughtful everyday interactions. These moments reflected understanding, respect, and emotional connection in ordinary life, helping to strengthen family bonds while bringing home–school collaboration closer through meaningful interaction.

Student Recognition: Stage-Based Evaluation Results

Based on students' participation in activities and their daily academic performance, the Student Development Office announced the stage-based results of the student evaluation system across multiple dimensions, including academic achievement, activity participation, and moral development

Congratulations to the students who stood out in each category, and we look forward to their continued growth and progress in both learning and campus life.

Student recognition is not about a single outcome, but rather a stage-based affirmation of long-term commitment, positive learning habits, and well-rounded development. We also encourage more students with potential to actively engage in learning and practice, growing together and advancing step by step.

Subject-Based Themed Class Meetings

Building on evaluation and feedback, the school further supports student reflection and dialogue through themed class meetings led by subject teachers. Recently, these sessions have covered topics such as business and economicshistory and humanities, and personal growth, fostering in-depth discussion and exchange.

By actively collecting student feedback, the school will continue to refine both the content and format of these class meetings. This process not only supports individual student development, but also strengthens class communities, ensuring that class meetings truly become spaces for quality dialogue, critical thinking, and meaningful growth.

Healthy growth depends on self-discipline and positive learning habits. The Student Affairs Office released a consolidated report on student disciplinary issues over the past month, covering areas such as attendance managementuse of electronic devices, and overall school conduct. Individual violations have been addressed in accordance with school regulations, and recent evaluations of school uniform compliance were also conducted.

While recognizing the strong performance of the class with the highest uniform compliance score, the Student Affairs Office emphasized once again that:

Clear daily standards are essential to maintaining campus order and safety, and form the foundation for effective learning and healthy student development.

Key Reminders on Disciplinary Focus

In light of recent observations, the Student Affairs Office reminds students to pay particular attention to the following:

Use electronic devices responsibly and avoid excessive gaming.

Maintain classroom discipline and a positive learning attitude.

Strengthen self-management skills rather than passively complying with rules.

Rules are not meant to restrict growth, but to safeguard itStudents are encouraged to further regulate their behavior in both learning and daily life, using self-discipline as a foundation for growth and making steady progress in a structured and supportive environment.

At the conclusion of the assembly, teachers from the University Admissions Office presented SMCS's recent admission offers from UK and US high school pathways. These stage-based achievements are the result of long-term and well-structured planning, consistent effort, and close collaboration between students and the school's admissions guidance team.

Taking into account the different academic stages of each grade, the admissions team also outlined key priorities for the upcoming semester. Whether through sustained participation in extracurricular activities or academic preparation aimed at securing unconditional offers, students are encouraged to plan early and progress steadily.

 The teachers emphasized that:

University admissions are never a last-minute sprint, but rather the outcome of long-term development in academic ability, depth of engagement, and personal expression.

AI is not a replacement, but an enabler. Only through proactive learning, hands-on practice, and respect for clear boundaries can students continue to grow and thrive in the age of intelligence.

Standing at the transition between the end of the semester and the start of a new stage, we hope every SMCS student will face upcoming challenges with clear goals and steady action, advancing step by step through sustained effort toward a broader and more promising future.
