What a fantastic week of literary adventures we’ve just shared! From author visits to poetry hunts and dressing as our favourite characters, Book Week 2026 at NAIS Pudong truly brought the joy of reading to life across our whole school community.

It was wonderful to see our students so engaged, whether they were listening to stories in the library, reading while picnic, or performing for their peers. Here’s a look back at the week’s highlights.

Monday: An Inspiring Author Visit

We kicked off the week with a visit from author Sue Pickford Cheung, who worked with students across both Primary and Secondary in the library. Our students were captivated by her stories of growing up between cultures and were fascinated to learn how unexpected life experiences can lead to a career in writing. It was a wonderful reminder that inspiration can come from anywhere.

Tuesday: Reading Picnic

Armed with their favourite books, everyone settled down together for a relaxed reading picnic. There is something truly special about seeing an entire school community pause to enjoy reading for pleasure.

Wednesday: Puppet Shows and Literary Exploration

Wednesday was a day of creativity and discovery. Our Year 12 CAS students stepped beautifully outside their comfort zones, performing a puppet show in the library for our youngest learners in EYFS and Year 1. It was heartwarming to see them bring stories to life and interact with the children as their favourite characters.

Meanwhile across the Secondary school, students rotated through English Stations, exploring different book genres, reflecting on their emotional reading choices, and celebrating influential women writers ahead of International Women’s Day.

Thursday: Poetry Scavenger Hunt

Our campus became a literary puzzle on Thursday! Students crafted clever animal poems using techniques like alliteration, personification, and imagery—all without revealing the animal directly. The poems were displayed around the school, and everyone took part in a poetry scavenger hunt, guessing the hidden animals and identifying the literary techniques used.

Friday: Character Dress-Up and Celebratory Assemblies

The week culminated in a burst of colour and creativity as students dressed as characters from their favourite books. In Secondary, students went beyond the costumes by analysing and presenting their chosen characters in English lessons.

We closed the week with lively English assemblies, celebrating performances, book reviews, and the winners of our Book Week competitions. Congratulations to all our Extreme Reading Challenge and Best Dressed Character winners!

Thank you to our teachers and students for making Book Week 2026 such a memorable celebration of storytelling at NAIS Pudong.
