To better implement character education, Lucton has offered a character development course for all students on a weekly basis at the beginning of this term. The course starts with the school culture and core values, centring on the nine virtues of Lucton: responsibility, respect, compassion, harmony, integrity, courage, modesty, excellence, and initiative. Along with supplements from common phenomena and social cases in daily lives, Lucton’s character development course guides students to better understand and think about character.
In character development course, students go through a process of understanding, reflecting and applying. The definition of character is simple, but it is not easily achieved. Ms Zhang noted that students often forget the assigned tasks after class. From this, it is easily shown that students’ initiatives are not strong enough. Ms Zhang has often reminded students to write down immediately when teachers assign tasks, instead of recalling the tasks afterwards. Character tends to permeate the little things of life like this. In character development course, students will reflect on whether they have possess these qualities, and if not, how to adjust and cultivate them.
