莱克顿的数学课

一、个性化指导


学生的背景不同,数学能力也不同,有强有弱。为了满足不同学生的需求,我们根据他们的水平制定了不同的计划。


10年级的学生除了正常上课以外,我们还会提高他们的词汇量和其它理解数学的技能。比如我们使用过词汇卡,海报,带学生玩游戏,也会结合其他形式共同实现这一目标。对于不同的学生,我们的要求不同,给他们布置的作业也不同。


本学期的时间很有限,因此11年级和12年级的学生已经完成了所有课程,现在处于复习阶段。我们使用牛津AQA教学大纲来找出他们在数学上的弱点,有的放矢,指导学生针对各自薄弱环节做更多练习。为了帮助学生推动进度,我们还安排了每周数学测试。对于学有余力的学生,让他们多做IGCSE历年真题,而对于数学薄弱的学生,我们会进行额外辅导。


13年级的学生还在继续上课,这个学期的时间非常紧张,他们不仅需要投入足够的时间学习新知识,还必须花时间复习所学。我们在数学教室里放了很多知识点总结海报,便于他们复习。


课后,我们还有数学复习课和拓展课,如果莱克顿的学生需要数学上的指导,每一位学生都可以找老师上这些课。这意味着,课堂之外,莱克顿的学生也可以得到老师的帮助。

Part One | Personalized Guidance

The students have different background and have different levels in their mathematics. Some are strong in mathematics and some are weak. As math teachers, we also have different plans based on their different level to meet their requirements.

For Y10 students, at the same time when we give them regular lessons, we may spend some time to improve their vocabulary, and their skills in understanding mathematics. We prepared vocabulary cards, posters, we let them play games and use other forms to achieve such goal. For different students, we have different requirement and may assign different homework to them.

For Y11 students and Y12 students, since their time is very limited this semester, they have finished their lesson and are reviewing what they have learned. We use related AQA syllabus to find their weak points and let them do more practice on the topic where they are weak, we also give them test every week to push them. For those who are strong, we may assign more past papers and for those who are weak, we may give them extra lessons.

Y13 students have not finished their lesson, their time is extremely tight this semester, they have to spend enough time to learn new topics and at the same time, they have to leave some time to review what they have learned. We put a lot of posters in the math classrooms, most of which are used for revision. 

We have revision lessons and CCA lesson for mathematics after school, any student in Lucton can make appointment with teachers for extra lessons to improve their mathematics. So that the students in Lucton can have teachers help them even after school.

二、备考进行时


本学期,我们非常开心有新同学加入了9年级。这9位学生性格各异,学术能力不同,这对课堂教学是一种挑战。但令人欣喜地是,在课堂中他们彼此互相帮助,我相信最终我们会有一个很好的教与学的氛围。


10年级的学生们每天都在进步。他们从小班制的学习中受益,大部分10年级学生都能积极参与到课堂中。在我的进阶数学课堂中,虽然三角学内容有难度,但学生们乐于学习,而且非常努力。此外,我们很高兴看到大多数学生都在努力学习并养成良好的学习习惯。


11和12年级的学生们处于一段忙碌且紧张的时期,牛津AQA考试局将会根据教师评估的成绩给学生提供成绩认证,因此备考会持续到5月底,比过去几年的备考时间要长。学生已经在3月份完成了第一次模拟考试,成绩尚可,我相信这会鼓励到那些缺乏自信,担心考试的学生。在4月和5月分别还有两次模考,希望他们备考顺利,考出好成绩。

Part Two | Exam Preparation

This term we are very happy to have our new year 9 students joining us. These nine students with different characters and variant academic abilities made the class challenging. However, I am glad to see them help each other in the class and believe it will be a good teaching-learning environment eventually.

My year 10 students are growing day by day. The students benefit from the small-sized class, so most of them could be engaged and take an active part in the class. In my Additional Math class, even though the content of trigonometry is difficult, the students have shown they were willing to learn and tried really hard. In addition, it is always happy to see the majority of the students have been working hard and developing a good habit of learning.

Year 11 and year 12 students are in a busy and stressful period. As Oxford AQA will provide the qualification based on teachers assessed grades, the exam-preparation situation will last till the end of May, which is longer than that in the past few years. The students have done the first mock exam in March. The results were not bad and I believe it must have encouraged some students who lack of confidence or are worried. There will be another two mock exams take place in April and May respectively. Let’s hope the students can be prepared and perform well.

三、数学实验


因为今年期末考试形式改变,学生们面临最忙碌的一个学期。13年级力学小组最近正在研究重心章节,为了了解重心的实用性,我们在校园足球场进行了指尖平衡1米尺的实验。另一个实验是,通过去掉告示板卡纸上的3个针脚,让学生们看到卡纸悬空的时候垂直线的现象。


13年级数学小组的学生也用各种方法理解核心概念,解决同样的问题。例如,我们在台球室进行实验,直观地看到球在弹性和非弹性情况下的碰撞过程,包括正面碰撞和倾斜碰撞。球在台球桌上的碰撞使学生看到中心线在倾斜碰撞中,传递动量产生的变化。


除上课之外,备考是现在最重要的任务,学生通过历年真题和其他考试材料了解所有考试题型。每章节课后练习的最后两个问题具有挑战性,需要学生花时间努力完成。每周二和周四,从晚上7:30到8:30,有复习课,老师会针对较难的知识点和考试题型对学生进行强化辅导。


11年级进阶数学小组正在非常努力地学习和复习,因为期末考试临近,所以每周日都会全面进行一次IGCSE历年真题考试。最近,我们在课堂上再次复习了较难的知识点,例如对数和微分。学生已经知晓了考试中的评分方案,并结合自身的学业情况,了解如何最大程度地提高个人总分。此外,每周日上午10:50至11:40以及每周一下午4:40至6:20 都有复习课,老师会辅助学生强化较难知识点和考试题型。


考试期间,学生们要在固定时间内解决问题,而且要答对每个题才能获得这一题的满分,比如:保留3位有效数字还是保留小数点后3位这样的特定任务,除了给出正确答案,还要按要求正确地保留数位才能获得这一题的满分A1,这需要付出巨大的努力。13年级和11年级处于非常关键的阶段,我们在帮助他们加强做题的反应速度,以期获得最佳结果。

Part Three | Mathematics Experiments

We are in the busiest term of the year as the final exams approaching in a different style this year. Year 13 Mechanics group is working on centre of mass chapter recently and to understand the practicalities of centre of mass we went to the football field to do an experiment of balancing a meter ruler on fingertip. We also saw how vertical line behaves when Lamina is suspended freely by removing the 3 pins of poster on the notice board.

Year 13 Further Maths group saw various approaches to solve and understand the core concept for the same question. For example, we did practical experiment in the poolroom to see vividly the process of collision under elastic and non-elastic situation along with head on and oblique collision. A collision of snooker balls on the pool table allowed students to see how the line of centre acts in an oblique collision to transfer the momentum.

On the other hand, exams preparation is the utmost importance right now, students are practicing all exam style questions from the past papers and exam material that is available. A challenging homework of last 2 questions from each exercise of each chapter is taken hands on by students that required lot of serious efforts. There are regular revision classes going on every Tuesday and Thursday in the prep time from 7:30pm to 8:30pm to reinforce the conceptual knowledge of harder topics and exam style questions.

Y11 Additional Maths group is working really hard and revision is extensive with a weekly full-length test using an actual past paper on every Sunday as the final exams are approaching within a month. We have revised harder topics again in the classes recently such as logarithms and differentiation. Students also read the mark schemes and marked their own work to understand how to maximize the overall scores. There are regular revision classes going on every Sunday 10:50 am to 11:40 am and Monday 4:40 pm to 6:20 pm to reinforce the conceptual knowledge of harder topics and exam style questions.

A significant effort is put on problem solving under timed conditions and gaining marks by specific tasks such as providing answers in 3 s.f. or 3 d.p. to gain the final A1 marks for the answer, within classes to prepare the students of both Y13 and Y11 groups in order to prepare them for adjusting their response timings for best result outcomes.
