The King’s School, Canterbury traces its history all the way back to its founding in 597 CE, making it one of the oldest continually-operating schools in the world. As the first overseas campus of this ancient institution, The King’s School Shenzhen has a close connection to its sister school in the UK, with which it shares many resources and much expertise.
Grounded in history and with its focus firmly on the future, King’s endeavours to nurture the next generations of global citizens, international in their outlook, creative in their thinking, and with a deep understanding of Chinese and Western culture. KSS has now formally opened admissions for the 2024-2025 school year, both at our Pre-Prep school (PreK to K3) and at our main campus (Grade 1 to 12).
King’s Pre-Prep
PreK, K1, K2, K3
KSS Pre-Prep uses the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which lays a strong foundation for children’s future learning. The EYFS framework consists of seven key areas of learning, namely: communication and language; physical development; personal, social, and emotional development; literacy; mathematics; understanding the world; and expressive arts and design.
King’s Pre-Prep prioritises small class sizes, with each class having an average of twenty students. Each class has four teachers, a homeroom teacher, a co-teacher, a bilingual teaching assistant, and a ‘life’ teacher. Additionally, we have a dedicated teacher for our library, as well as for art and PE. All classes and activities at Pre-Prep are conducted in a Chinese-English bilingual immersive setting, so that our students learn, consolidate, and master both languages.
The first Open House of the new term will be held on Friday the 8th of March. Our Co-Heads of Pre-Prep and classroom teachers will be present to talk about the UK curriculum and the King’s educational philosophy, so we would like to cordially invite all parents and children to come and visit King’s Pre-Prep and enjoy our superb outdoor activity areas. You will also have the opportunity to step into a classroom and see for yourself how we teach at King’s.
King’s Prep and Senior
Grade 1 to Grade 12
Our bespoke King’s curriculum is key to teaching our students. Its strength lies in the combination of a rigorous academic provision with a rich variety of co-curricular activities. In our Prep school (Grades 1-7), the curriculum we use is based on the well-established Cambridge International curriculum, supplemented with elements of the King’s Canterbury curriculum and of the Chinese national curriculum, allowing us to meet the diverse learning needs of our students.
The KSS Senior curriculum primarily consists of the IGCSE (two-year programme/one-year programme) and A Level curricula, and includes university application guidance aimed at global top universities. Senior students also have the opportunity to complete an International Project Qualification (IPQ), which is accepted by universities around the world.
The first Open House of the new term will be held on Saturday, the 2nd of March. The Heads of Prep and Senior will be present to discuss the King’s curriculum, differentiated instruction and assessment, university application guidance, and more. At the Open House, you will also have the opportunity to submit a one-stop application and register for the assessment test.
Our aim at KSS is to provide our students with an outstanding and authentic international education, based on the strength of our curriculum, faculty, and learning environment. With enrolment for the 2024-2025 school year now open, we invite everyone to come to King’s and join us on our extraordinary educational journey!
