The New Plant Diaries:

Growing Up Together

The grass is seeding;

the wind is waving its leaves.

The grass behind the wall,

touching the sunlight with its fingertip.

Children are more likely to sense the beauty of nature than adults. After having the fourth grade’s Unit 3 Chinese class, they sense this even more.

Reporter

Recently school’s Botanical Garden has received a group of special visitors.

Each of them holds pen and paper. Many children touch the leaves and draw with a swish of their paper.

Mr. Monstera

Ms. Heliconia

I'm very interested in the different photo poses. In order to leave a more beautiful figure on the children's paintings, I had to work harder.

Day 1

Seeing the branches and leaves stretching in the wind, smelling the green leaves mixed with an earthy smell, touching the veins of life on the leaves, hearing the shy little insects hiding behind the leaves and making subtle noises, the children tried all kinds of ways to get to know these plants. Once they mastered these observation methods, the arrangement of planting mung beans was put on the agenda.

Day 2

In order to help the children have a deeper understanding of the growth process of plants, they needed to plant mung beans by themselves. This included: choosing seeds, digging soil, watering, choosing a good growth environment, and finally adding some good wishes for the small mung beans to sprout soon

Day 3

For recording the growth status of their little mung beans, the children specially prepared an exclusive "New Plant Diaries"

In order to have a better growing environment, these "little parents" also sent their own little mung beans to the sunny "bean seedling class". Every day the children absorb knowledge in the classroom while their "bean seedling class" absorb sunlight outside the classroom. The children and their bean sprouts grow and develop together

Day 4

After two weeks, the children's mung beans were growing well, and becoming more and more lovable. Unknowingly, the "New Plant Diaries ”were getting thicker.

We have all read about the waving Boston ivy written by Ye Shengtao, and the crickets that can build "practical mansion" by Fabre. Because of this, many children have also stood in a row curiously in front of the wall full of creepers, looking down all the way for the cricket’s house and wondering how Fabre knew the internal structure of the house.

But believe me, when you read the children's “New Plant Diaries ", you will find that they are no less interested than those excellent writers. Although the children are emerging writers, they do it with love

Postscript

In the process of planting mung beans, we saw the children would cheer for the little seedlings when they were working hard to grow upwards, worry because of the little black on the new leaves, be excited to share with the world when the seedlings grow a little bit taller. We were also be infected by this excitement! As we all knew, it’s the result of their love and wholehearted contribution.

We hope the children will also understand our expectation That is, to be healthy, upright and thriving, just like the mung seedlings.
