Teacher’s Day in the United States is ALWAYS a Very Special Day—one in which students can show their appreciation to their most favored teachers! I think most feel that Teacher’s really are the “unsung heroes” in a young person’s life over what the media pushes to be “Idols” through athletes, musicians and celebrities! It is nice that most places, especially in America, can honor their Educators on one special day for work that they tirelessly do every teaching day of the year! Back home in the US, we celebrate Teachers for the 1st full week of May calling it: “Teacher Appreciation Week” with one day selected as “National Teacher’s Day!” Students can show their appreciation by giving flowers, greeting cards and other gifts to their Teachers! Me personally—I prefer Big Hugs of Heart-filled Thanks! :)

美国的教师节是一个非常特别的日子——学生可以在这一天向他们最喜欢的老师表示感谢！在大多数年轻人眼中，老师是“超级无名英雄”，而不是媒体大肆推举的“偶像”！我很高兴看到，大多数地方都会在一个特殊的日子向教育工作者致敬。在美国，我们在5月的第一周庆祝教师节，称其为“教师感谢周”，其中有一天被选为“全国教师节”！学生可以通过向老师赠送鲜花、贺卡和其他礼物来表达他们的感激之情！我个人的话…...我更喜欢充满心意的大拥抱，谢谢！:)

In Mexico, “Teacher’s Day” (Día del maestro) is celebrated on May 15th, because that is the date of the celebration of Saint John Baptist de la Salle, the catholic priest and pedagogue who dedicated his life to the training of teachers in Europe. In most schools in Mexico, since 1918, classes are cancelled for the day and the teachers get a day of celebration, instead. This celebration is usually organized by the school leaders and the students, and consists of cultural activities. The students entertain the teachers through dances, songs, dramatization, comical skits, declamations and all forms of performances. Besides, students usually offer letters of appreciation to their teachers and, sometimes, they will also offer gifts to their main or favorite teachers. In the past, parents visited the teachers’ house and brought gifts with them. Nowadays, gifts are usually delivered by kids themselves at school or during the celebration. This day is meant for the teachers to relax and enjoy, it is a recognizition of the hard work and effort that teachers put into their work day to day.

How a country appreciates it’s education system is how a country appreciates its future. This is a value that is shared between my home country of Ireland and here in China.

Each year across the country teachers day is celebrated in many ways. I read that in recent years students in many schools would prepare a special brunch for the teachers. In the capital city of Dublin everything from museums to cinemas are free entrance on this date, even public transport is free if you can prove that you work in education. My brother, who doesn’t work in education, complains that teachers take over the city each year. My view is that the city is all the better, for this annual invasion of teachers!

It is the small gestures in which students show their appreciation that can keep us teachers energised throughout the year.

一个国家如何看待它的教育系统，代表着一个国家如何看待它的未来。这是爱尔兰和中国共享的价值观。每年全国各地都以多种方式庆祝教师节。远在中国的我得知，近年来在爱尔兰，很多学生会为老师们准备一份特别的早午餐。在首都都柏林，无论是博物馆、电影院还是公共交通系统，教师都可以免费享受。我哥哥不在教育领域工作，他抱怨老师每年都会在这一天“接管”这座城市。而我的观点是，这个城市因为这一天变得更好了！

Teachers become a very important part of kids and parents lives and are highly appreciated, so every time that day is coming, it's really exciting and expected by teachers. It's very common that school gives half day event where the students prepare and share things for the teachers, like singing or playing sports and it's also very common to give Teachers gifts of appreciation from students and parents, so at the end of the day, everybody goes home with a big smile on their face!

在哥伦比亚，老师是孩子和家长日常生活中非常重要的角色，受到高度赞赏。所以每到这一天，老师们都非常兴奋和期待。学校举办半天活动是很常见的，学生们为老师准备惊喜，比如唱歌或共同参加体育运动，也会向老师赠送小礼物。在一天结束时，每个人都会带着灿烂的笑容回家！
