“书来了！”｜VPA BOOK-O-WEEN
上周五，我们迎来了第一届“书来了”（BOOK-O-WEEN）。我们希望通过这个活动激发学生们对阅读的热爱。全校师生员工都装扮成书中的角色来介绍自己喜欢的书，共同欢度一个特别的周五。
为了迎接深圳十一月读书月，我们早早将十月的最后一个周五定为“书来了”活动日，作为学校的读书月的启动仪式。
我们希望书不仅仅在这一天，而是每一天，都能来到孩子们的身边，来到孩子们的学习生活中，能够与孩子们为伴。但是这一天，是一场嘉年华，吹响书来了的号角。

Last Friday, we had our first ever "Book-o-ween." We hope to inspire students' passion in reading through this activity. Everyone in the school dressed up as his or her favourite charater from a book to introduce the book and celebrate this special Friday.
To welcome the Reading Month of Shenzhen in November, we decided that the last Friday of October would be "Book-o-ween" as the openning ceremony of Reading Month at school.
We hope that books, not only on this Friday, but in everyday, will come in children's life, and be with them. But this day is a carnival that marks the coming of the books.
我们的校长们在周五一早就整装待发，穿着代表他们最喜欢的书的装扮。Adam Hill校长打扮成Dogman的样子，袁校长是著名绘本《火焰》里的小狐狸，李靖副校长则用两幅画了各种点的作品加上一顶贴满点的帽子来表达对《点》这本绘本的喜爱。
老师们也扮成各种各样的角色，有小红帽、白雪公主、三只小猪......

Our principals were ready in their costumes in Friday morning, to represent their favourite books. Principal Adam Hill dressed up as Dogman, Principal Yuan was the fox in the famous story book called "Huoyan," Deputy Principal Li used two drawings of dots and a hat with full of dots to express her love towards to book "Dot."
Teachers also dressed up in all different charaters, there were Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Three Little Pigs......

我们每个班级还有一些特别的读书活动。比如一年级的同学们向全班介绍了自己喜欢的书。

There were different activities. For example, students in Y1A1 introduced their favourite books to the whole class.
三年级的学生们有一项更有意思，也更有难度的活动。他们在家与家人们一起用各种食物制作出他们喜欢的书的封面。在家人的帮助下，他们学会烹饪、切菜、拼贴，做出想要的图案。
每个孩子都充分发挥自己的创造力和想象力，用食物制作出逼真的图案。

Students in Year 3 had a more interesting but more difficult task. They made the cover page of their favourite books using different kinds of food at home. With the help from their family members, they learned how to cook, cut, and organize them to make the pictures.
They were all very creative in making vivid images from food.

Students in Year 4 made comic strips according to the charaters they dressed up in.

我们的中方校长袁晓峰女士和港方副校长李婧女士在放学前去每个班向大家介绍了自己喜欢的书。
袁校长分享的书叫《火焰》，讲的是关于母爱的故事。李副校长分享的书叫《点》，讲的是一个对于画画一开始很胆怯的孩子，在老师的鼓励下，从一个点开始画，渐渐地勇敢画出各种各样的点。

Our Chinese Principal Ms. Yuan and Deputy Principal Ms. Li introduced their favourite books to students.
The book shared by Principal Yuan is called "Huoyan," and it talks about the love from a mother. Deputy Principal Li shared "Dot" which talks about a child who was afraid of drawing. Encouraged by teacher, he started drawing from just one dot, and later on he made many wonderful drawings of dots.
Children listened very carefully and played games with the Principals.
袁校长在如何培养孩子们对读书的热爱上颇有见解。她说：
“怎样让孩子爱上读书？第一点是给他们阅读的环境，跟书零距离相处的环境；第二点是给孩子们自主的选择读书的权利，不是逼着他们一定读什么书，而是在浩瀚的书当中引导孩子，让孩子就自己的自主选择他们喜欢读的书；第三，我们应当把读书当作一种高尚的休闲、一种学习的方式，但是我们不应把读书作为任务。所以在在这次活动中，我们也看到了很多让我们过去没有看到的阅读方式。
所以我们应该要把读书变成孩子们的精神食粮，让孩子们能够自然而然地想要读书、喜欢读书，就像我们饿了要吃饭一样。阅读能够改变他们的生命，能够让他们打开窗看到更广阔的世界，可以带给他们更多的思考。
阅读的力量是巨大的。阅读能力强的孩子，内心更有力量，更坚定。他们不会为眼前的苟且而停滞不前，或者眼光目光短浅。他们的眼里、心里，总是有诗和远方。所以，阅读可以让一个人更有格局、更有眼光、更有气度、更有风度，所谓腹有诗书气自华。”

How to let children
love reading books
Principal Yuan knows how to foster children's passion in reading books. She said:
"How to let children love reading books? First, we should give them an environment to read, to be with books; second is to allow them to choose whether read or not, and what to read; third is to view reading as a fun thing to do and a way of learning, we shouldn't view reading as a task, for example, we had many interesting ways of reading in this event.
We should let reading become children's "food" for their spirits, and they will naturally want to read and love to read, just like we want to eat when we are hungry. Reading can change their lives, can open the window for them to see the world, and can bring them to think more.
Reading is powerful. Children who have strong ability in reading are more powerful and determined. They won't stop at where they are, and they will always have dreams and ambitions. Reading can make us better, more gentle, and have a better vision."
