The annual Arts Performance event kicked off on 11 May at Longhua Senior Secondary School, with teams from over 100 primary and secondary schools in Longhua participating. Our school sent a chamber orchestra led by Ms. Shirley Wen, the school choir and the Chinese recitation team led by Ms. Hannah Wang. With the experience of last year's online competition and awards, the students trained hard and were ready to go with confidence and nervousness.
First up on stage were members of our Chamber Orchestra, P2A Antonio, P3A Jay, P4A Flynn and P6 Abbie. Our Chamber Orchestra is a newly formed club this term. Despite the short rehearsal time, the children showed their outstanding performance. They opened their performance on stage with aplomb, presenting a piece called "The Street Where the Sea Can Be Seen".
Jay's piano is the conductor of the chamber music, setting the tempo.Antonio's violin takes on the important main melodic voice, while Flynn and Abbie share the role of steady rhythm and accompaniment.
The four students successfully completed their first performance on stage as a chamber orchestra. Even in the large platform showcase in Longhua District, the students showed good quality and mentality. It is believed that they will continue to showcase the excitement of chamber music on stages in the future.
The Chinese classics are the essence of traditional Chinese culture and have nourished generations of Chinese. The Chinese Language Arts and Presentation Club was established in January 2023 and is divided into three levels: Junior, Intermediate and Senior. On behalf of the school, the Upper Level students took part in the performance. After nearly a month of preparation, and with the careful guidance of Ms. Hannah Wang and the full support of their parents, the eight students entered the competition with a modern poem entitled "China by Moonlight". This was also the first time that our club students made an appearance in a big performance.
During the competition, the students worked closely as a team and presented their work smoothly to the background music, leaving a deep impression on the judges and the audience.
Our choir members chose to perform two choral pieces, 'You raise me up' and 'Seeking Plum Blossom in the Snow'. On the stage, students took their positions in four rows and started their performances.
Choral singing is the art of singing with multiple people, multiple voices, simultaneous vocalizations and different melodies, and each student on stage completed two pieces. The opportunity for students to gain stage experience and learn to listen and collaborate in music was a valuable and memorable experience.
