Meet Our Lower PYP Principal Michael Lattimore | 欢迎小学低年级校长!

We are delighted to introduce Michael Lattimore, who has joined ISNS as our new Lower PYP Principal. With a rich background in education that spans across the globe, Michael brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering educational excellence to our ISNS community. 




Michael has worked in various schools worldwide. During his tenure in China, Michael held prominent roles as a PYP Coordinator, Head of Primary School, and Early Years. Michael's dedication to the IB philosophy and his enthusiasm for creating dynamic and engaging learning environments make him a valuable addition to our school.




What inspired you to become an educator and eventually take on the role of a principal? 


 

My journey into teaching was ignited by one of my own educators. During my high school years, my music teacher left an indelible mark on me with his passion for the subject. His genuine care for each student in our cohort created an inspiring learning environment. The enthusiasm and dedication he exuded inspired us all to reach our full potential in music. 


Experiencing this transformative teaching style sparked a realization within me I wanted to become a teacher myself. After several years in the teaching profession, an opportunity arose to transition into a principal role. Considering myself a risk-taker, I eagerly embraced this new challenge. Serving as a principal has been incredibly fulfilling for me. 


I take immense pleasure in supporting our dedicated teachers, ensuring our students have the optimal environment to grow and learn. Collaborating closely with parents is a facet of my role that I deeply value. Furthermore, I find great joy in being a steadfast presence for students, celebrating their successes, and extending a helping hand when they face difficulties. 



What are your goals and aspirations for our school in the upcoming academic year? 


 

As the new principal here, I have set several goals. First and foremost, I aim to build upon the excellent work that has preceded my tenure and further develop and enhance our already fantastic program. Additionally, a key focus for me is to strengthen our commitment to play-based learning, making it an integral part of our daily classroom experience. 


Furthermore, I am dedicated to fostering and fortifying our partnerships with parents, creating more opportunities for positive interactions between home and school through various events and initiatives throughout the school year. This will provide parents with valuable insights into the incredible learning experiences happening within our classrooms.



How do you envision fostering a positive learning environment for our students? 


 

When it comes to fostering positive learning environments, the initial focus lies in building relationships. As a strong advocate for positive discipline and restorative practices, I firmly believe that optimal learning environments are cultivated when there are excellent student-to-teacher ratios and strong interpersonal connections within the school community. In my view, the most effective learning experiences are rooted in inquiry-based practices, hands-on learning, and all the elements that contribute to the excellence of an IB program. 



Any special message or advice you'd like to share with students, parents, and staff? 



The best education is a collaboration between home and school and one of the things that I'm really looking forward to this year is to work with our parents and our parent community to come together to strengthen our learning that happens in the classroom. I'm looking forward to having opportunities to work with our students and our teachers and all the stakeholders of a school to have a great and strong school year!

是什么激励您成为一名教育者并最终担任校长一职?


 

我的教育热情是由我自己的一位老师点燃的。在我的高中时期,我的音乐老师对这门学科非常有激情,给我留下了不可磨灭的印象。他对我们班级中每个学生真诚地关怀,创造了一个鼓舞人心的学习环境。他所散发出的热情和奉献精神激励我们所有人充分发挥音乐潜力。


体验了这种变革性的教学方式让我意识到我自己也想成为一名教师。在从事教师职业几年后,出现了转型的机会。我是一个敢于冒险的人,因此热切地接受这个新的挑战。担任校长对我来说非常有成就感。


我非常高兴能够支持我们敬业的老师,确保我们的学生拥有最佳的成长和学习环境。与父母密切合作是我非常重视的一个方面。此外,我非常高兴能够坚定地支持学生,庆祝他们的成功,并在他们遇到困难时伸出援助之手。





您对这一学年的目标和期望是什么?


 

我设定了几个目标:首先也是最重要的,是在我之前已经完成的工作基础上,进一步发展和优化我们出色的课程计划;此外,我的一个重点是加强基于游戏的学习,使其成为我们日常课堂体验不可或缺的一部分;以及培养和加强与家长的伙伴关系,通过整个学年的各种活动和举措为家庭和学校之间创造更多积极互动,让家长了解我们课堂上发生的各种学习体验。





您如何设想为我们的学生营造一个积极的学习环境?


 

关于营造积极的学习环境,最初的重点是建立良好关系。作为积极纪律和恢复性实践的大力倡导者,我坚信,当学校社区拥有良好的师生比例和牢固的人际关系时,就能营造出最佳的学习环境。在我看来,最有效的学习体验植根于探究式实践、实践学习以及IB框架下的教学。





您有什么特别的信息或建议想与学生、家长和教职员工分享吗?




最好的教育是家庭和学校之间通力合作,今年我期待的一件事是与我们的家长和家长社区一起努力,加强孩子在课堂上的学习体验。我期待有机会与我们的学生、老师和社区一起工作,共同度过一个丰富多彩的学年!
