Today, we would like to invite you into the Harrow Shenzhen Early Years Centre (EYC) and show you how our 'Little Lions' play, learn and grow through their daily lives!

“早上好呀，你今天看起来真棒！”

晨光微曦，深圳前海哈罗国际学校幼教中心的园长Sophie Lockey女士和各班的老师们已在校门口迎接学生和家长。家长将孩子的小手交到老师的手中，老师带着蹦蹦跶跶的小狮子们准备吃早餐。新一天的学习和生活开始了！

Head of Early Years Centre Ms Sophie Lockey and the teachers of each class are already by the gate of EYC, greeting the arriving students. A brand-new day is about to start after breakfast!

8:15-9:00am

圆圈时间

走进课堂，小朋友们正坐在地毯上聚精会神地听讲。在第一学期的校园学习与生活中，老师设计了情绪和拼读相关的课程，帮忙孩子们察觉、了解并学会表达自己的情绪。

幼教中心的独特之处，在于其课程和活动的设计并不是基于特定的主题——老师们从开学的第一天起便会细心观察班里的每个孩子，从孩子们的玩乐中发现他们的兴趣所在，并将这些兴趣延伸成为课程目标。

Walking into one of the classrooms, students are all sitting on the carpet, listening attentively to the teacher. In the first term, our teachers are supporting the kids with better personal, social and emotional development by designing emotional and phonics related courses.

What differentiates the EYC education from others, is that the overview planning of the classes and activities are not topic-based. Instead, the teachers observe what the students are interested in and incorporate those interests into the curriculum objectives.

幼教中心的课程体系采用循序渐进的方式，并关注每个学生的个性化需求。我们不仅提供核心领域，如数学和读写能力的教育，还融入了数字科技的知识和素养、文化认同和传承、多元化，以及可持续性的意识和技能。

例如，在可持续发展和环境的学习方面，在当今快速发展的世界中，全球变暖的影响越来越大。让孩子从小就学习如何重复和回收利用是非常重要的课题。使用回收材料进行创作可以增强孩子们的创造力，让他们探索循环利用的可能性。

通过废品建模和使用回收材料进行创作，孩子们生动地展示了我们幼教中心的教学目标。我们努力将这5大学习者素养（情感发展和健康、好奇心、主动性、思考和认知发展，以及创造力）融入到日常教学和环境中。

Our Harrow Little Lions Curriculum is a bespoke curriculum that is progressive and recognises the individuality of each learner. We offer a unique curriculum which alongside the core areas such Maths and Literacy, embeds knowledge and skills within digital knowledge and awareness, cultural identity, heritage, and diversity as well as sustainability.

Within our Harrow Little Lions Curriculum, Sustainability and the Environment are one of our learning areas. In a modern and fast developing world where global warming in increasingly having an impact, it is important to teach our young learners how to reuse and recycle from a very young age. Creating with recycled materials enhances children's creativity to look at the possibilities of how something can be used again.

Through junk modelling and using recycled materials to make creations, children are demonstrating our Harrow Little Lions Disciplines. We have 5 disciplines in which we strive to embed in our everyday teaching as well as in the environments: Emotional Development and Well-being, Curiosity, Motivation, Thinking and Cognitive Development and Creativity.

激动人心的户外活动时间到了！虽然课堂上的活动也很有趣，但现在三个年级的小狮子们可以在游乐场上玩耍。

It is outdoor play time! Though it is very interesting to be in class, this is a precious time for the Little Lions because they could mix with different year groups during this period!

10:20-11:00am

Learning Time

学科学习

在操场上奔跑、玩耍、放松之后，小狮子们陆续回到教室。有些班级开始学习音乐、数学、中文等科目。而Ms Carter在跟孩子们讲“恐龙”——原来是Ms Carter发现他们喜欢恐龙，于是通过这个兴趣点给孩子们讲解形状、颜色、数数等内容！

小孩子们注意力集中时间有限，老师会将讲解教学时间控制在10分钟之内，然后便让孩子们各自到教室的不同区域玩耍。这不是简单的玩，因为老师早已根据教学主题将教室和走道布置成了不同学习导向的区域。

从观察、发现孩子们的兴趣所在，由此获得教学的主题和灵感、设计相关的课程——孩子们逐渐发现他们自发的游戏竟然可以影响老师们的教学，学习的主观能动性便加强了，哈罗深圳小狮子们的领导力特质便在他们不自知的情况下得到了锻炼和加强！

Having had some fun and free time running and chilling in the playground, the Little Lions go back to classes. Some are doing specialist lessons such as Music, Math or Mandarin. As we walk into one of the classrooms, the students are learning what their teacher Ms Carter found them interested in – dinosaurs!

Teacher-input lessons are restricted to less than 10 minutes and then the students are dispersed to go and play in the classroom. This is not aimless playing, as the teacher and teaching assistant have already set up different activities for the students in the classroom, hallway, playroom and even outside of the classroom.

The Little Lions start to feel a sense of pride as they can influence the topics to learn, which also motivates them to take ownership in what they are learning – the unique leadership attributes and Harrow values are fostered and celebrated throughout the early years stage at Harrow Shenzhen!

接下来是孩子们的阅读和学习探索时间。阅读是一种习惯，是每位哈罗学子必备的一项基本生活技能。

阅读的重要性不言而喻。它能丰富我们的词汇库，帮助我们开拓视野，逐步培养创造性思维与思辩性思维。这也是适应未来信息社会和成为终身学习者的过程中，需要培养的基本技能之一。哈罗深圳还会在每年的世界读书日举办一系列活动，营造一个良好的阅读氛围。

This is followed by reading and learning time for the children. Reading is a fundamental life skill for our students to develop.

The importance of reading is undeniable. It expands the mind, improves vocabulary, gives greater perspective, and allows for creative thinking. It is also one of the first and fundamental skills to develop on the journey to becoming information literate citizens and lifelong learners. World Book Day provides us with an opportunity to celebrate the act of reading both individually and collectively and builds on the culture of reading that is being established across Harrow Shenzhen.

午餐

午餐时间到啦，孩子们已自觉在餐桌前坐好。老师会奖励小朋友们在餐桌上任何良好的举止和积极的行为。在每周五的集会上，学生还将获得良好礼仪证书。看着这些孩子们认真吃饭的样子，真是内心萌萌哒！

It is lunchtime! The students have already been seated around the table. The teachers will reward any good manners and positive behaviours. Marvellous manner certificates will be issued to students during Friday assemblies.

课室时间&学习

走进下午的一间教室，幼教中心大班的小朋友们正在开展以“光和影”为主题的中文学习活动。

孩子们通过观察图片认识了“光”字，区分自然光和人造光，领略发光动物的神奇。通过阅读和表演故事《大黑兔》，学生感受到光、物体和影子是如何变化的。说到光影艺术，孩子们根据故事《火焰山》一起合作表演了历史悠久的皮影戏！

幼教中心采用寓教于“玩”的方法帮助孩子们学习和成长，我们相信游戏对孩子是极其重要的。孩子们在游戏中学习探案、思考问题并和他人产生联系，逐步建立自信心。

Our Reception children have been doing some learning activities in relation to Light and Shadow.

The chidren learned the Chinese character '光' by observing the picture. They distinguished natural light from artificial light and know more about 'glowing' animals. Through reading and acting the story 'The Big Black Rabbit', we get to know how light, objects and shadows' position change. Speaking of the art of light &shadow, the children cooperated to play Chinese shadow puppetry based on the story 'Flaming Mountain'.

The learning process at EYC is facilitated through a play-based teaching approach. Play is essential for children's development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems, and relate to others.

1:40-3:00pm

体育与户外探索

现在是体育时间！今天恰好是哈罗国际深圳一年一度的“运动日”。三个年级的小狮子们兴致满满，准备出发，在运动场上竞技。

本次运动会也吸引了众多家长前来观看和参与，为孩子们加油鼓劲，一起见证他们的成长。

Today is our annual 'Sports Day' at Harrow Shenzhen. All of our children are excited and ready to go.

The games also attracted many parents who watched and cheered enthusiastically for their children. The exciting, competitive atmosphere and nature of the event is always a wonderful opportunity for parents to witness their children's personal development and growth.

收获满满的一天就要结束啦！老师们给孩子们绘声绘色地讲完最后一个故事，可爱的”小狮子“将和家长们手牵手回家咯！

”小狮子“Richard的妈妈Mrs Lena Liu

分享了她自己的心路历程。

“刚开始的时候，我确实有些担心2岁的孩子是否能够适应新的学校环境。不过，通过学校各位老师的细心引导以及一系列精心设计的课程和班级设置；无论是在创造性的艺术课、丰富的体育活动，还是引发孩子们对科学的好奇心游戏中，我非常欣慰能看到孩子一步步的成长！”

The day at EYC is about to end! The teachers have vividly told the last story to the children, and the adorable "little lions" will go home with their parents.

Mrs Lena Liu also took the initiative

to share her reservations and

surprises about how her child

was adjusting to the EYC environment.

"In the beginning, I was worried about how my 2-year-old child would adapt to the new school environment. However, I am very pleased to see my child growing step by step thanks to the careful guidance of the teachers and a variety of well-designed courses and class setups at school, such as creative art classes, enriching sports activities, and games that stimulate the children's curiosity in science!"
