We recently conducted an interview with a multinational family in the Harrow Shenzhen community. Habin's (Y5) father is a British professor at Peking University, and his mother is from Korea. A few years ago, this happy international family moved from Korea to China and chose Harrow Shenzhen as their children's school. Let's listen to their interview!

举家从韩国迁到中国后，您当时为什么选择将孩子送来哈罗国际深圳？
我在英国生活了40多年，一直从事法律职业，是一名出庭律师。我很熟悉哈罗公学在英国和国际上的声誉。当得知深圳前海有一所哈罗国际学校时, 我毫不犹豫地决定把Habin送到那里读书。我自己曾就读于英国一所非常朴素的综合学校, 所以对我来说, 能够把Habin送到哈罗就像梦想成真一样。但我不希望通过孩子来实现我的梦想, 我想让Habin过自己的生活, 而哈罗秉承的教育理念正是让他实现自己抱负的理想场所。
2021年，我去了解了深圳地区的大部分国际学校，也在韩国社区和社交媒体上问询了相关信息。我喜欢哈罗国际深圳的课程设置以及全人教育的理念。哈罗学子的风采、教学楼的设计和校内的顶级设施全部给我留下了深刻的印象。Habin在完成面试和测试后，他说哈罗的老师们都很善良和体贴，他真的很喜欢这里的老师和学校环境。
Inheriting Harrow's 452-year tradition of educating excellent students
When relocating to China from Korea, why did you decide on Harrow?
I have lived in the UK for over four decades, and I have been a part of the legal profession as a Barrister for a significant part of that time. I am very familiar with the reputation of Harrow School in the UK, and internationally. When I discovered that there was a Harrow in Shenzhen, there was no doubt in my mind that this is where I would send my son. I attended myself a very humble comprehensive School in the UK, and so for me to be able to send my son to Harrow, is like a dream come true. However, I don't want to live my dreams through my son --- I want Habin to live his own dreams, and the Harrow philosophy is just perfect for him to realise his aspirations.
In 2021, I researched the majority of the international schools in Shenzhen, and also asked around on social media within the Korean Community. I liked the curriculum that Harrow Shenzhen offers and the holistic approach to education. I was impressed by the students and the size and amenities of the new building. So we went ahead and applied to Harrow. After Habin completed his interview and test, he said the teachers at Harrow were very kind and considerate and that he really liked the teachers and the school environment here.

Habin进入哈罗国际深圳学习后，您看到他在什么方面有所成长吗？
总的来说，我们非常欣慰的看到Habin变得更加自信了，还开拓了各个领域的爱好。Habin为成为哈罗社区的一员而感到无比自豪，他特别喜欢领导力项目，这为他提供了发现自己喜爱且擅长领域的机会。他目前是小学部合唱团以及学生会的一员，并且还被选中成为了学生大使。Habin积极履行作为哈罗学校学生的责任，特别是他被赋予的这些领导力角色，他乐于去帮助其他的学生，亲身践行哈罗提倡的核心价值观。这些特质对一个在数字时代长大的孩子来说非常重要。
首先，Habin在学业上取得了可喜的进步；其次他对音乐和体育，特别是足球，产生了兴趣。此外他的沟通能力得到了提高，特别是中文水平突飞猛进，他已经可以流利地用中文和朋友们交流。

Exploring leadership and courage to shine in all fields
What progress/changes have you seen Habin made after joining Harrow?
Generally, he has become more confident, and we are very pleased with the progress he has made overall. Habin is extremely proud of being part of the Harrow community and especiallly enjoys the Leadership Program, which provides him with the opportunity to discover what he likes and what he is good at. He likes being a member of the Lower School choir, and fulfilling his responsibilities as a student at Harrow, in particular the leadership roles he has been given. He loves being a member of the Student Council and was proud to have been selected as a Student Ambassador. He is always happy to help other students. He understands the values Harrow promotes. These qualities are really important for a child who is growing up in the digital age.
Habin made tremendous progress academically. He has developed an interest in music and sports, particularly football. In addition, his communication skills have improved. He has made great progress in his command of Chinese. He enjoys speaking fluent Chinese with his friends!

感谢两位的分享，请问您参加过的学校活动中有哪些让您印象深刻的呢？
我们参加了哈罗国际深圳举行的450周年庆典音乐会、夏季音乐会和院舍音乐比赛等等活动。我们非常欣慰地看到Habin在唱诗班自信的模样！此外，学校举行的各式家长会和工作坊是与老师沟通的好机会，并及时获得有关Habin表现的真实反馈。
我很高兴，在儿子的这个阶段，他接受的教育不仅仅专注于学业表现，这点与我所了解的其他一些学校不同。

Holistic education, building humanistic care between home and school
Thank you for sharing, which of the events you've participated in have made the most impression?
We attended the 450 Years Celebration Concert, Summer Concert and House Music Competitions. We loved watching Habin sing proudly in the Lower School choir. The Parent-Teacher meetings are good opportunities to meet his teachers and receive honest feedback about Habin's performance.
I am pleased that at this time in his life my son is receiving a broad education that is not totally focused on academic performance alone, as is the case in some other schools, as I understand.

What do you want to say to students/parents who are joining Harrow Shenzhen?
I want to congratulate the parents/students for having made the decision to join Harrow International Shenzhen. They have made an excellent choice for their children. The excellent facilities in the school make children feel valued and respected. Also, the teachers have a caring attitude towards the students, making the children feel safe during breaktime.
Please rest assured that your child will be in good hands at Harrow, and you will be getting regular feedback on their progress! The teachers are very dedicated to their profession, and the school is constantly exploring innovative ideas in education.
