First, we would like to congratulate our MIS students for winning the following medals!
The world Scholars Cup (WSC) is not for the faint of heart as the sheer amount of knowledge to learn and skills to display can be daunting, but it is an amazing opportunity for the brave, passionate and curious students of the world!
MIS is proud to have sent our students to participate in the various events of its Global Round in Dalian, China!
From the 5th to 11th of August our MIS scholars got the chance to compete with other students from schools throughout China as well as from other countries. They needed to display an enquiring spirit, critical thinking, expressive debating skills as well as effective research. Yes, they had to do all of this and more since the world scholars cup is a chance to learn and discuss meaningfully a wide variety of topics affecting the world.
From how art is reinterpreted to planned obsolescence, from imagining what the future might look like to new business models.
Our students Matthew, Henry, Celine, Faith, Lucas and Tidus had to showcase their talent and their hours of hard work in four main events:
It might look like a traditional multiple-choice answer exam, but it has a twist, the questions require the scholar to show a deeper understanding of the study materials and test the learners’ ability to analyse and evaluate the best possible answer. They can also choose more than one possible answer and get points!
It's a great opportunity for scholars to use various styles of writing to create great work of persuasive writing in a form and style of their choosing, including but not limited to rhyming poetry, a fairy tale or any other style that could potentially catch the attention of the judges.
Perhaps the most challenging event since scholars need to not only use their 15 minutes of research time efficiently, they also need to be actively listening to the other team and arguing for or against a motion in front of a judge.
Similar to the Scholars Challenge, except that this time, scholars answer as a team using a clicker, and the answers are displayed after each question.
Each event tested our MIS scholars in different ways but when all the dust settled from all the plush alpacas running around the event (the alpaca is the WSC mascot animal and each scholar received one!), the majority of our scholars found out they had been admitted into the final round!
Again, congratulations to all that participated and to those who received this great opportunity!
