 Union of 4 Main Campuses: VCA Teacher Training

北京时间2024年11月5日上午,在威睿达思教育集团董事长谢锁良博士的引领与组织下,威睿达思四个校区:切萨皮克(美国第一校区)、阿灵顿(美国近华盛顿校区)、深圳、上海校区齐聚一堂,开展了本学期第二场教职工培训。

On the morning of November 5, 2024 Beijing time, undr the guidance and organization of Dr. Xie Suoliang, Chairman of VCA,VCA' four campuses - Chesapeake (the first campus in the United States), Arlington (near Washington, D.C.), Shenzhen, and Shanghai - gathered together to conduct the second faculty training of this semester.

威睿达思美国阿灵顿校区校长

Sean Elgut

2005年,Elgut先生与妻子共同创立了VCA,并带领学校迈入全美前五十的优秀私立学校。他硕士毕业于瑞金大学,从1994年开始从事教学及管理类工作。他的母校瑞金大学予了他2009-10年度“最著名校友”的荣誉称号。学校创立至今,Elgut先生將学校规模从十几人扩大至400多人一—这在美国的精英私立学校是非常傲人的办学成绩。

With his wife, Mr. Elgut co-founded VCA in 2005 and has led the school to the top 50 private schools in the US. He graduated from Regent University with a master's degree and has worked in teaching and administration since 1994. Regent University honored him as one of its "Most Notable Alumni" for 2009-10.Since the school's founding, Mr. Elgut has expanded the school from a dozen students to over 400, which is outstanding among elite private schools in the U.S.

Mark Keating

Keating先生不仅仅担任VCA美国校区的校长,他自身还是学校的游泳与网球教练。他硕士毕业于瑞金大学教育学专业,有着超过30年的教育经验与教学管理经验。他擅长在短时间内迅速提升学生的体育成绩,曾培养出奥运会游泳健将与全美游泳明星。

Mr. Keating is not only the principal of VCA, but he is also the school's swimming and tennis coach. He graduated from Regent University with a Master's degree in Education and has over 30 years of experience in education and administration. He is good at improving students' athletic performance in a short period of time, and has trained Olympic swimmers and national swimming stars.

来自阿灵顿校区的校长与校长夫人,Elgut夫妇,首先向四个校区的老师们讲解了美国古典精英教育的三大阶段:语法阶段、逻辑阶段、修辞阶,并详细说明了每个阶段的教学任务和教学目标,他运用了大量发展心理学的原理,将儿童与青少年的成长趋势与学校教育紧密相连,展现出威睿达思学校特色教育系统的优势,也提升了四个校区老师们的认同感和凝聚力。

The principal and his wife, Elgut, from the Arlington campus, first explained to the teachers in the four campuses the three stages of American classical elite education: grammar stage, logic stage, and rhetoric stage, and elaborated on the teaching tasks and objectives of each stage. He applied a large number of principles of developmental psychology to closely link the growth trends of children and adolescents with school education, demonstrating the advantages of the distinctive education system of VCA and enhancing the sense of identity and cohesion of the teachers in the four campuses.

Elgut校长还建议老师们鼓励学生参加大量文学、科学的竞赛项目,在紧张的竞争环境中,学生可以更加积极地提升知识水平与抗压能力。Elgut夫人补充道:“我非常同意在学习的过程中发现乐趣的教学思路,教师应该教授学生的不仅仅是知识本身,更是他们架构知识与时间管理的能力,她还提到在美国的校区,学校的教育管理者都非常注重三个方面,分别是:truth(knowledge),beauty(art music),goodness(good virtue)

Principal Elgut also suggests that teachers encourage students to participate in a large number of literary and scientific competition projects. In a tense competitive environment, students can actively improve their knowledge level and stress resistance. Mrs. Elgut added, 'I strongly agree with the teaching approach of discovering joy in the learning process. Teachers should not only teach students the knowledge itself, but also their ability to structure knowledge and manage time. She also mentioned that in American campuses, educational administrators place great emphasis on three aspects, namely:truth(knowledge),beauty(art music),goodness(good virtue)

来自切萨皮克校区的校长Keating先生向各校区教授Omnibus相关课程的老师们分享了一本教育学的经典著作——《The Well Educated Mind——A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had》,他认为VCA每一位Omnibus的老师都应该仔细研究这本著作,这对文史类教学的帮助很大。

Mr. Keating, the principal from the Chesapeake campus, shared a classic educational book called "The Well Educated Mind - A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had" with teachers who teach Omnibus related courses at various campuses. He believes that every Omnibus teacher at VCA should carefully study this book, which is of great help to cultural and historical teaching.

在书中,他尤其推荐了阅读训练的第二个阶段《Practice the Machanics of Reading》,他建议教师们要明确阅读的功能性与实用性,培养学生长篇阅读的能力。同时,他还鼓励老师们带领学生走出传统课堂,与自然亲密接触,除了可以带学生在更加实用性的环境中建立语言系统,更能够让学生在轻松愉悦的心境下学习知识,让枯燥的文史课程变成寓教于乐的温床。

In the book, he particularly recommends the second stage of reading training, "Practice the Machanics of Reading," and suggests that teachers should clarify the functionality and practicality of reading, and cultivate students' ability to read long texts. At the same time, he also encourages teachers to lead students out of traditional classrooms and have intimate contact with nature. This not only helps students establish language systems in a more practical environment, but also enables them to learn knowledge in a relaxed and enjoyable state of mind, turning dull cultural and historical courses into a breeding ground for teaching and enjoyment.

威睿达思从建立起全球化校区布局开始,就致力于在各校区共享教育资源,学生在任何校区一经入学即等于入学美国总校区,将于12年级前往美国校区完成高中学业与大学申请。

Since establishing a global campus layout, VCA has been committed to sharing educational resources across all campuses. Once students enroll at any campus, they are equivalent to enrolling at the main campus in the United States. They will go to the US campus in the 12th grade to complete their high school studies and university applications.

如今这样成熟的体系离不开谢锁良博士的带领,也离不开各校区校长与教师团队的努力。目前校区联动的教师培训已成为威睿达思的固定培训内容,每个月各校区的教学管理团队会收集教师的疑问和建议汇总,并由美国两个校区的校长在培训会议上集中答疑。

Nowadays, such a mature system cannot be achieved without the leadership of Dr. Xie Suoliang, nor can it be achieved without the efforts of the principals and teacher teams of each campus. At present, teacher training through campus linkage has become a fixed training content for Weiruidas. Every month, the teaching management teams of each campus collect teachers' questions and suggestions, and the principals of the two campuses in the United States provide centralized answers at training meetings.
