To further explore and comprehensively advocate the spirit embedded in China's valuable traditional culture, MIS invited Ms. Xie Jingfrom Organization Department of the CPC Shenzhen Longhua District Committee and Ms. Liu Jian from Shenzhen Longhua Foreign Languagues School Group to deliver two wonderful intangible cultural heritage courses for our lower senior students.
In Ms. Xie Jing’s class, she made a detailed analysis on the highly captivating ethnic dance dramaThe Dream of Red Mansion (《红楼梦》). This dance drama was performed at the Jiangsu Art Centre. She dissected deeply the play and found out the close relationship between the characters' personalities and the dance language in the drama, interpreting the rich cultural symbols embedded in the costume design, and discussing the unique visual aesthetics presented by the stage design, among other aspects. Through this comprehensive interpretation, Ms. Xie effectively conveyed to every student at MIS the important concept of "deeply understanding and effectively inheriting Chinese culture, and always proud of our culture and having confidence in it and daring to innovate. "

In Ms. Liu Jian’s class, focused on introducing the Miao (ethnic minority) wax printing, an ancient and highly distinctive traditional textile dyeing technique of the Chinese nation. Today, Miao wax dyeing continues to evolve with the progress of time, with its patterns becoming increasingly diverse and the color combinations more innovative and vibrant. The wax dyeing has been widely used in various aspects of our daily life, such as product packaging, interior design, and home furnishings.
In the class, Ms. Liu not only demonstrated the technique herself but also provided creative ideas to inspire the students. The students were actively engaged in the class, following Ms. Liu's guidance. They unleashed their creativity in their designs, producing exquisite Miao wax dyeing pattern works. The entire classroom was immersed in a rich artistic atmosphere.
The in-depth introduction of the two teachers guided all students to appreciate the essence of traditional culture, allowing our young generation to understand, get close to and fall in love with intangible cultural heritage, so that to inject vitality to the traditional Chinese culture.
In fact, as a purely British boarding international school, MIS has always advocated the integration of multiple cultures and insisted on building a solid foundation of traditional Chinese culture and values, so as to cultivate ‘global citizens with a sense of family and country and a global perspective’. Traditional Chinese cultural education is not only indispensable, but also creates a bright spark when met with western culture.
