园艺作家南茜·罗斯·胡格写过一本书，叫《怎样观察一棵树》，他在里面写道，“想要欣赏一棵树的生命力，需要多年内定期去观察它的变化。”细细品味，会发现这个过程十分奇妙。就连歌德也曾“附和”：“思考比了解更有意思，但比不上观察。”

Gardening author Nancy Ross Hugo wrote a book called How to Observe a Tree, in which he writes, 'To appreciate the vitality of a tree, you need to observe it regularly over many years.' A closer look reveals that this is a beautiful process. Even Goethe said, 'Thinking is more interesting than knowing, but not as interesting as observing.'

为什么？

Why?

因为“观察”是一个严肃的动作，其本身代表一种尊重、正视，参与，甚至是支持的态度，它可以用来品味生命。一棵树尚且如此，观察一个人、甚至一群人，则是一座无边无际的宝藏。而教育，也离不开这种观察。

Because ‘observation’ is a serious action, which in itself represents an attitude of respect, confrontation, participation, and even support, and it can be used to savour life. If a tree is like this, observing a person, or even a group of people is an infinite treasure. And education, too, cannot be separated from such observation.

2024年11月25日，普林云海校园里难得没有读书声，取而代之的，是轰轰烈烈的校园运动会。我们喜爱这类校园活动，不仅因为“双A教育模式”（ACADEMICS & ATHLETICS EDUCATION）是普林云海一以贯之的教育方针，同样因为在学校的眼中，一场挥汗如雨的运动会就像实验室里的一种特定显微镜，能够让我们看到学生们在体育发展、树立目标、品德塑造等各个方面奇妙变化。

On 25 November 2024, there was a rare absence of the sound of reading on the campus of PSIS, and in its place, there was a vigorous campus sports event. We love this kind of event, not only because ACADEMICS & ATHLETICS EDUCATION is a consistent educational policy at PSIS but also because, in a way, a sweaty sports day is like a specific kind of microscope in a laboratory, allowing us to see the students' athletic performance. It allows us to see the beautiful changes in our students' physical development, goal-setting, character-building, etc.

在学术校长潘校长的致辞中，运动会正式拉开了帷幕。根据普林云海的传统，全校师生都被划分到各个不同的HOUSE，彼此间通过在运动场上的拼搏和奋斗，彰显出各个HOUSE的团魂。

而在球类方面，本次运动会有棒球、3V3篮球、羽毛球以及乒乓球。丰富多彩的球类运动，不仅可以训练同学们的手眼协调性，还能增强同学们的快速反应能力。球的反弹特性，使孩子对事物运动方向的改变产生思考和认识，提高孩子预测运动方向的能力。

In terms of ball games, there were baseball, 3V3 basketball, badminton, table tennis, These rich ball games can train students' hand-eye coordination and enhance their quick reaction ability. The ball's bouncing characteristic makes children think about and understand the change of direction of movement and improves their ability to predict the direction of movement.

球类运动历史悠久，在平时的球类练习中十分有益处，不仅能够增强学生的运动技能，而且也在运动中培养了他的规则意识和团结合作精神，更能培养出坚韧不拔，力争上游的珍贵品质。

Ball games have a long history. Usual ball practice is very beneficial; not only can it enhance the student's motor skills but also the movement to develop his sense of rules and the spirit of unity and cooperation. It can also create the precious quality of perseverance and strive for excellence.

教育，不仅需要高屋建瓴的教学理念，同样需要我们所有人躬身入局，深入观察每一个活动，对话每一个学生、并参与每一步成长。

Education not only requires perfect teaching concepts but also requires everyone to get involved, observe every activity, dialogue with every student, and participate in every step of growth.

在学校，我们通过多样化的课后作业，观察学生是否学会了阅读、理解、总结和思考的能力；我们通过大型文艺活动，观察学生的责任心、沟通水平、团队协作和舞台表现力；同样的，我们也会通过组织多元的体育活动和运动会，观察学生的控制和调动身体的能力，并且培养他们在比赛中坚韧不拔、胜不骄败不馁的品格，以及引导他们养成享受运动过程的习惯。

In school, we observe students' reading ability through after-school homework to see if they have learned to comprehend, summarise and think; we observe students' sense of responsibility, level of communication, teamwork, and stage presence through large-scale arts and cultural activities; similarly, we observe students' ability to control and mobilize their bodies, their resilience in competitions and their character in sports and in winning and losing, their resilience in competition, their character in victory, and their habit of enjoying the vitality of sports.

教育不是一两年的事情，它是十几年甚至一生都在学习和进益的人生功课。因此，学生一定要全面发展。自然地，我们在学校也不仅仅是测量某一个学科的成绩，我们要观察学生每个方面的变化，他/她的情绪变化，他/她的人际关系，他/她的好奇心 ...我们要观察教育的整个生态，因为没有一颗树是孤立的，教学的内容也不是。

Education is not something that takes place in one or two years; it is a life lesson learned and benefited from over a decade or even a lifetime. Therefore, students must be well-rounded and developed. Naturally, what we need is not only to measure the performance in a particular subject, but we need to observe the changes in every aspect of the student, their emotional changes, their interpersonal relationships, and their curiosity about the things around them ... We have to observe the whole ecology of education because no tree is isolated and neither is the content of teaching.

当我们在观察他的跑步姿势、和同伴之间的情谊以及能否坚持完赛的时候，我们关心的并不仅仅是那一次运动成绩，人际关系和意志力，而是这个人本身。当我们像观察嫩芽一样去观察“新变化”的时候，我们真正关心的，是我们施行的教育本身是否真正能够发掘出学生独一无二的天赋，在多元的舞台上历练出他们如金子一般的生命品质。

When we observe his running posture, the friendship between him and his peers, and whether he can persevere through the race, we care about the sports performance, interpersonal relationships, willpower, and the person himself. When we observe the 'new changes' as if they were buds, we really care about whether the education we provide truly unlocks our students' unique talents and cultivates their gold-like qualities in a diverse arena of life.
