This Christmas, BMH hosted a unique event that brings together the excitement of Sports Day with the joy of the Christmas season. Join us to experience the dynamic spirit of BMH and be part of an unforgettable celebration.
The Christmas Sports Day, the last large-scale whole-school event in 2024, brought together all students, parents and staff of the Pre and Prep Schools. With great creativity and enthusiasm, we welcomed the Christmas and New Year with vibrant moments of sports, and embarked on a new chapter with hope and love.
The spectacular opening ceremony marked the commencement of the Sports Day, with the well-prepared classes showcasing their creativity and enthusiasm.
The Christmas-themed class performances exceeded expectations, showcasing a range of impressive talents from endearing parent-child show to spirited junior dances. The multi-age participants displayed remarkable levels of enthusiasm in their collective display.
Our purpose is to bolster our joie de vivre, our love of life, to put our best feet forward and work together in all manner of Christmassy flavoured olympic activities.
During the opening speech, Dr Wall, Executive headmaster, dressed in a Father Christmas costume, delivered a motivational speech to athletes and their parents , while Ms Yin Wang, the parent of P1 and PreK students, spoke warmly in both Chinese and English about the children's anticipation and excitement for the sports day. In light of the mounting anticipation, Ms Angela, the Head of Pre school , proceeded to declare the opening of the Sports Day. She extended her hopes that all in attendance would enjoy themselves and benefit from the opportunity to strengthen family ties and foster friendships.
In the sporting arena, both adults and children can engage in activities that test balance, endurance, flexibility, agility, explosiveness and co-operation. These sports programmes are designed to be enjoyable for all participants, while also providing a challenge.
The event included nearly 30 competitions, which provided an opportunity to observe the dedication and enthusiasm with which participants engaged in sports, the collaborative spirit and mutually beneficial relationships between parents and children, and the determination and courage demonstrated by peers in working together. On the field, the Olympic spirit of 'Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together' was evident, and we also observed the immense enjoyment that sports bring to participants.
In addition to class-based competitions, we have also established parent participation programmes and group programmes with the objective of ensuring that every member of the BMH community has the opportunity to fully participate in the sports event and demonstrate their abilities to the fullest extent possible. The participation in sports is not contingent on status or age, nor is it defined by the outcome of the event.
The art teachers and sports team have prepared trophies and medals, which are symbols of honour and recognition. At the prize-giving ceremony, we were impressed by the high-quality trophies, including the intricate Ferris wheel designs, the realistic carousel creations, and the festive Christmas tree decorations. These trophies showcased the remarkable creativity and expertise of the teachers and students involved. The finishers' medals also featured subtle designs, reflecting the thoughtful input of the sports team teachers. We believe these trophies and medals will leave a lasting impression on the children.
In the arena, we strive to perform to the best of our abilities, engage fully with the competition, and give it our all for one minute. Outside the sporting arena, our members are forging lasting memories of this day in a variety of ways.
The Sports Day Press Corps, comprising students from BMH Prep school, provided coverage of the day's events. They conducted interviews with teachers, parents and students at various locations around the sports ground, and used questions to generate further interest and engagement. We are pleased to present the insightful reports gathered by these intelligent, charming, and refined young individuals.
In addition to the sporting events, the performance stage also demonstrated remarkable excellence throughout the stadium. A number of flash mob performances were staged by students and parents, showcasing enthusiastic songs and dances that fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity across the sports ground.
The successful organisation of the Games was dependent on the dedication and commitment of all those involved, including parents, teachers, referees and logistics staff. They ensured the safety of participants and facilitated a seamless and orderly viewing experience for spectators. The Games are not only a sporting event, but also an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate collective strength and enhance mutual understanding and respect, thanks to the dedication and unity of the entire team.
The value of sports extends beyond the triumphs of victory. It encompasses the journey of resilience, the development of teamwork, and the inspiration to embrace life. As a yearly occurrence at BMH, the event exemplifies the community's spirit of unity, love, and celebration. And last but not least, we'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Special thanks to: all the PTA members and the parents of K1A Max and K2A Blithe for their support!
