DEIJ

At ISNS, the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) Committee is made up of educators eager to contribute to making our school a safe zone and an enjoyable environment for everyone in our community. We are committed to engaging in open discussions about justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and finding meaningful strategies to support the well-being of each person.

It is with this commitment that we proudly launched our first-ever ISNS Diversity Days—a celebration of the many identities, stories, and experiences that make our community unique.

On April 8–9, 2025, ISNS introduced Diversity Days, an exciting new initiative celebrating the diverse identities that make up our school community.

With the theme “I Am a Phoenix,” the event invited students, staff, and families to explore topics related to identity, culture, equity, and inclusion—while also reflecting on our shared connection as members of the ISNS family.

The celebration featured a variety of interactive and reflective activities designed to foster awareness, dialogue, and connection.

It began with the debut of a powerful video, “I Am a Phoenix,” featuring voices from across the school community and highlighting the richness of our collective experiences.

Homeroom teachers guided students through personal identity reflections, with student volunteers transforming the responses into vibrant Word Cloud posters for each class.

One of the most visually impactful activities was the World Map Sticker, where students and staff marked one or two places they consider “home” on large maps of both the world and China. This interactive experience invited thoughtful discussions about home, heritage, and belonging.

Other highlights included the Diversity Pledge and Floor Sticker Reflection, where students explored different aspects of identity through a self-guided walking activity, and the DEIJ Bean Bag Toss, a student-led recess game reinforcing key inclusion concepts in a fun, active way.

High school students also participated in a lively round of Diversity Jeopardy, led by student volunteers.

These events were the result of a collaborative effort between the ISNS DEIJ Committee, members of the student support team, and our incredible student volunteers, who played a vital role in bringing the celebration to life.

From classroom reflections to whole-school activities, ISNS Diversity Days marked an exciting step forward in building a more inclusive and connected community. As we continue this journey, we are reminded that celebrating diverse identities isn’t just an event—it’s part of what it means to be a global citizen who values different perspectives and helps create a more caring, inclusive world.

DEIJ
