"Look at this Chinese rose. Doesn't it look like a smile kissed by spring?" A childish voice came from Boya Hall. Zeng Rouxi, a student from Grade 5, was pointing at her own painting with a sparkle in her eyes.
In Boya Hall, which is between Building A and Building B of Huamei Foreign Language School, a spring art exhibition themed "Children's 'Paintings' Create a World, and Beauty Nourishes the Heart" is in full swing. The children's works are like bright stars, illuminating Huamei in spring.
The Integration of Aesthetic Education, Painting a Colorful Chapter
Huamei Foreign Language School deeply integrates the concept of aesthetic education, skillfully combining the "Half a Day per Week Plan" with "One Aesthetic Education Activity". This art exhibition is not only a concentrated display of the school's aesthetic education achievements but also a window for children to express themselves to the world.
The sketches of Chinese roses in People's Park capture the vivid beauty of nature; the daily creations of students from primary school, junior high school, senior high school, and the Hong Kong Department showcase the understanding of beauty at different age groups; the proud works voluntarily exhibited by students are a full expression of their inner worlds. From the delicate brushstrokes to the bold use of colors, each work tells of the children's love for life and their pursuit of beauty.
Carefully Planned to Create a Palace of Art
The art teachers planned in advance and led the students to transform Boya Hall into a palace of art by making use of the existing tools and materials in the school. The children personally set up the exhibition racks, adjusted the placement angles, and used waste materials to make decorations, filling every corner with creativity and warmth. In order to enable the audience to better understand the works, the students also recorded videos explaining the works, and told the stories behind the creations in innocent and childlike language. "The Chinese rose in this painting is the one I encountered when sketching in People's Park. It swayed gently in the sunlight, as if greeting me," said Wang Ruochu, a student from Grade 6, in the video.
Educating People through Aesthetics to Achieve a Bright Future
The school has always firmly believed that aesthetic education is an important way to cultivate well-rounded talents. Through this art exhibition, the children not only showed their artistic talents but also exercised their hands-on and expressive abilities in practice. When they were explaining the works and arranging the exhibition hall, a sense of confidence and accomplishment welled up within them. This kind of growth is far more precious than a perfect painting. Just as Principal Liao Yanfang said, "We hope that through aesthetic education, every child can discover the beauty in life and become a person with feelings and creativity."
