May 1-4- Labor Day Holiday
This week at ISNS, the library came alive with two exciting events designed to inspire a love of reading and promote literacy, lifelong learning, and library engagement across our community.
From April 16–18, we welcomed bestselling author Kate O’Hearn (Pegasus series) for exclusive writing workshops and talks with students in Grades 1–11. Her visit sparked creativity, encouraged storytelling, and brought the magic of books to life!
At the same time, the Obido Book Fair transformed our library into a vibrant book haven, giving students and parents the chance to explore and purchase a wide variety of books. Through the "wish ticket" system, students could select books independently while involving families in the reading journey.
These events were more than just fun—they were meaningful opportunities to connect students with stories, ideas, and the power of words. We’re proud to continue building a reading culture at ISNS, one page at a time.

2025 ISNS Student Led Conference
This Friday, ISNS successfully held its annual *Student-Led Conferences (SLCs)*, empowering students to share their academic journeys with families. The event, spanning PYP, Middle School, and High School divisions, emphasized student reflection, ownership of learning, and family engagement.

For Middle School, Students presented portfolios of formative/summative assessments, highlighting work they were proud of, passionate about, or had improved. Creative presentations sparked dialogue on critical thinking, supported by teachers.
For High School, Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs) provided focused sessions on academic progress and well-being. Students were encouraged to attend, fostering accountability.
**Key Outcomes:**
- Students demonstrated **ownership of learning** through self-reflection.
- Families gained insight into the **IB curriculum** and their child’s growth.
- The event strengthened **home-school partnerships** in supporting student success.
The SLCs and PTCs highlighted ISNS’s commitment to fostering confident, reflective learners. Parents praised students’ pride in their work and the event’s inclusive approach.
Thanks to all ISNS families, students, and staff for making this celebration of learning possible.
G6-10 Students Learnt About Different Educational Systems
During the study of Unit 3, students in Phase 4 of the Chinese Language Acquisition program for Grades 6 --10 of the MYP explored the role of education in an individual's life by learning about different educational systems.
They delved deeply into content related to education, including curriculum, school activities, and study tours. In addition, they mastered how to use appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures to organize their ideas and write effective speeches that met the intended purpose.
At the end of the unit, as an oral summative assessment, students delivered public speeches introducing their life, academic studies, and genuine feelings in MYP of ISNS. They presented their speeches to diverse audiences, including students in Grade 5 of PYP , Chinese teachers of the MYP, as well as teachers from the admissions and marketing departments.

K3 Celebrates Cambodian New Year
Mr. Seen's family is from Cambodia and Cambodian New Year is April 14-16, 2025. We learned about Cambodian New Year traditions. We learned a traditional coconut dance, played group games, had a traditional water fight, and learned how to cook authentic Cambodian food. As they say in Khmer (language of Cambodia): សួស្តីឆ្នាំថ្មី (suostei chhnam thmei) Hello New Year!
About Cambodian New Year:
Family Gatherings: Families clean their homes and decorate them to welcome the new year. They spend time together, sharing meals and stories.
Water Blessings: People pour water on each other as a way to wash away the past year’s bad luck. This tradition symbolizes purification and renewal.
Traditional Dances: Cambodians perform traditional dances and play games. These dances tell stories of their culture and history.
Festive Foods: Special foods are prepared, such as rice cakes and sweet treats. Sharing food is an important part of the celebration.
Other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar also celebrate New Year at this time. Each culture has its own unique traditions, but the spirit of joy and renewal is the same.

ISNS Staff VS Students Soccer Match
The ISNS High School Boys soccer team enjoyed a thrilling victory in a friendly, but competitive match against a hungry collection of ISNS teachers.
The teachers were motivated and focused, earning the first goal of the match. Scott Chapman, Grade 1 homeroom teacher, made Australia proud with a sweet goal. Teachers went into halftime feeling confident.
In the second half, the HS Boys elevated their play and began to put real pressure on Team Teachers. In a dazzling display of football skill, Grade 9 student Letian D. fired a superb long-range strike into the top corner.
Then, with only about 5 minutes remaining, G9 student Letian did it again! Another phenomenal strike and the HS Boys took the game, 2-1.
These student vs teacher games always bring out so much fun within the ISNS Community. It is part of what makes ISNS so special!
