On June 5th, a total of 6 school-level open classes from the Hong Kong Department and Bilingual Department were held as scheduled. As a regular activity of Huamei Foreign Language School each semester, the classroom culture display activity is carried out in two stages: the first stage is the open classes within the group, and the second stage is the school-level open classes. All staff participate in the activity, which lasts for the entire semester.
Empowerment by
Digital Technology
Ma Jiechun, an English teacher from the Hong Kong Department, taught the course “Protect our wildlife”. She introduced the concepts of endangered animals and extinct animals through a knowledge quiz. The thematic task required students to help the dodo bird compose a“ last message”, conveying to humans the sentiment: "If humans had possessed the awareness to protect wild animals, we would not have become extinct, nor would we be displayed in museums." Students were guided to list endangered and extinct animal species learned in class in combination with real-world examples. Additionally, they were assigned to conduct interview surveys after class and formulate scientific, specific plans for wildlife protection.
Teacher Chen Weifu taught the mathematics class Representing Variables with Relations. The lesson was introduced with the video Counting Frogs. Starting from the "changing triangle" to "low-carbon life", he systematically guided students to write "changes" as relations. Throughout the class, students actively raised their hands to answer questions and vied with each other to go to the blackboard for demonstration, while the teacher explained the content in a detailed and thorough manner.
Teacher Yang Xia taught Bamboo in Jinggangshan. The class was introduced by allowing children to understand the cultural connotations of bamboo. They appreciated wonderful excerpts and savored the language of the article. Throughout the class, teachers and students collaborated tacitly. Teacher Yang's language was inspiring, and students showed great interest.
Teacher Huang Yi taught Celebrity Comics, leading students into the "exaggerated and fun art world". (1) Feature amplification: capturing the "soul code" of celebrities; (2) Style exploration: understanding the "seventy-two transformations" of comics; (3) Demonstration and creation: disassembling the painting code of comics; allowing children to feel the charm of comics through brushstrokes.
Geography teacher Zhao Peng from Senior One taught the course "Influence of Pressure Belts and Wind Belts on Climate—Taking Shenzhen's Dragon Boat Water as an Example". With the help of interactive teaching software, he simulated the propulsion path of key wind belts affecting Shenzhen (such as the South China Sea summer monsoon). By operating the digital model on the multimedia screen, he clearly marked the influence area of the wind belts; dragging the slider to demonstrate the climate change simulation process turned the classroom into an intuitive "climate exploration laboratory".
Innovating Teaching Ecology A Summary of High-Quality
In Teacher Wang Bei's English class, an AI virtual idol entered the classroom, and a fashion show ignited the spark of language learning! It was an innovative English class that seamlessly integrated technology and education.
A.Intelligent Teaching Design: AI-Driven Situational Learning
Taking the new curriculum standard concept of "language serving real communication" as the anchor, Teacher Wang Bei creatively constructed a "School Fashion Show" themed scenario. At the beginning of the course, the virtual character Emma's Vlog popped up on the big screen: "Help me choose outfits for the show!"—instantly igniting students' enthusiasm for participation. The teaching hides three ingenious ideas:
(1) Multimodal input design. AI is used to generate fashion illustrations (dresses/denim clothing/down jackets, etc.) that conform to primary school students' aesthetics, strengthening visual memory of vocabulary. Intelligent speech synthesis technology generates dialogue audio with emotions (happy/hesitant/surprised) to train listening and sound discrimination abilities.
(2) Hierarchical task chain construction.
(3) Immediate feedback mechanism. An AI evaluation system is embedded in the group cooperation session to real-time analyze the pronunciation integrity of students' sentence patterns "What do you wear in __? I wear __" and generate star ratings.
B.Highlight Moments in Class: The Magical Effect of Human-Machine Dialogue
When the virtual Emma with twin ponytails appeared on the screen, exclamations erupted in Classroom 301: "She blinked at us!" Technology empowerment has achieved three breakthroughs:
(1) Breaking Time and Space Limits. By presetting several weather/scene variables (beach, sports meeting, snowy day), AI instantly generates logical outfit schemes.
(2) Alleviating Expression Anxiety. Shy students actively raise their hands because, as stated in student interviews(original quote from student interviews) goes, "I don’t need to fear making mistakes when talking to AI."
(3) Upgrading Pragmatic Competence. AI expands the language boundaries of textbooks with authentic corpus such as "I’d suggest pairing sneakers with that dress".
C.Empirical Evidence of Competency Implementation
A visible growth trajectory: In the creative session at the end of the course, the rooting and sprouting of core competencies were witnessed. At the group presentation stage, students confidently stepped onto the podium and loudly stated the types of clothing they were wearing. "Look! I wear a purple short sweater and striped pants for art class!" Integrating color vocabulary, the scenario was switched to a rainstorm: "I wear a raincoat and boots," triggering an inquiry-based discussion among the whole class about clothing choices for different weather conditions (with critical thinking emerging).
D.Implications for Educational Innovation
The ripple effects triggered by this lesson continue to spread:
(1) Boundaries of Technology Empowerment. It confirms the feasibility of human-computer interaction for younger students, providing a model for the school-based development of "AI teaching assistants."
(2) The Code for Classroom Transformation: When the duration of technology use (12 minutes) and the density of language practice (12 sentences per capita output) achieve a golden ratio.
(3) Solving real-world problems in virtual scenarios is exactly the cultivation path of "digital citizenship" advocated by the new curriculum standards.
Education is not about filling a bucket with water, but about lighting a fire. When children gather in front of the screen with shining eyes, asking the AI questions like "What about alien costumes?", what we see is a three-dimensional flame of language proficiency, thinking qualities, and cultural awareness burning brightly.
Remembering how Vice Principal Hu Shaoming innovated composition teaching with AI, and how Principal Liao Yanfang guided everyone to boldly use digital technology to innovate the teaching ecology, now school-level open classes are blooming with diverse styles, and Huamei teachers are standing at the forefront, continuously improving their professionalism
