In the golden month of October, the poetic atmosphere lingers. Following the brilliant opening of the "Poetry Lantern Festival" on October 9th, the excitement of the 4th National Language and Culture Festival at Huamei Foreign Language School continued on October 10th. Beside the Boya Hall, a calligraphy activity themed "Conveying Affection through Ink, Writing Classics" officially kicked off, adding another vivid and colorful touch to this over-a-month-long cultural feast.
With the faint fragrance of ink in the morning light, the host, Teacher Xiang Shuxuan, opened the event in a gentle tone: "Today, beside the Boya Hall, the ink tools are laid out, waiting for all of you to take brushes as a medium and join this cultural appointment." Following her guidance, everyone's eyes wandered through the elegant scene inside — two guzhengs leaned obliquely at the front, their wooden lacquer glowing softly as if the strings held dewdrops; in the center, a long table was spread with plain paper, the ink in the Duan inkstone clear and bright, with wolf-hair and goat-hair brushes lined up on both sides, fully displaying the elegant taste of literati; dozens of writing desks below were arranged along the corridor, each with rice paper spread flat, and ink dishes and paperweights neatly placed, like a piece of "ink field" waiting to be cultivated.
Chinese calligraphy and traditional folk music have always complemented each other, and this event perfectly integrated this elegance. Accompanied by the clear and melodious guzheng music played by the students, Principal Liao Yanfang took up the brush first. With a focused expression, he held the brush, gently dipped it in ink on the laid rice paper, and made a stroke with even force. As the brush tip flowed, a calligraphy work that combined strength of character and artistic charm gradually took shape. This scene of "ink accompanied by guzheng rhythm and Principal Liao picking up the brush" not only kicked off the creation part of the event but also made the teachers and students present feel the unique charm of the elegant taste of traditional literati, with applause ringing out one after another.
As Principal Liao completed the demonstration, the students officially embarked on their own calligraphy journey. They all picked up their brushes, writing on the paper with focused expressions, each stroke filled with earnestness and dedication. During this time, Principal Liao Yanfang and other teachers moved among the students, providing patient and meticulous guidance. The air was filled with the fragrance of ink, and the scene was permeated with a strong atmosphere of cultural creation.
After a period of focused creation, the students completed their calligraphy works one after another. Looking at the neat, beautiful or personalized handwriting they had created, everyone's face was filled with a strong sense of accomplishment. Some students held their works alone to capture the moment, while others gathered in small groups of three or five to record the joy together. Finally, all participating teachers and students gathered and took a group photo in front of the venue filled with calligraphy works, and the camera permanently preserved this beautiful ink-scented moment.
After the group photo, the event entered the work exhibition session. The staff carefully arranged all the calligraphy works by teachers and students in the exhibition area. The brush calligraphy works were either magnificent or delicate and elegant, while the hard-tip pen calligraphy works were either neat and standardized or vivid and lively. The works were neatly arranged one after another, like a cultural ocean filled with the fragrance of ink.
The fragrance of ink has not yet faded, and the pace of culture continues. In the days ahead, we will also witness the vivid "Textbook Drama Performance", where students will interpret classic stories; we will also encounter the affectionate "Poetry Recitation Contest", listening to the students convey the power of words through their voices.
May every teacher and student of Huamei maintain their love for culture, draw nourishment and show their elegant demeanor in the activities, allowing the excellent traditional Chinese culture to continue to shine on campus, and jointly write more wonderful chapters of this cultural festival!
