Over two millennia ago, the Celts lit bonfires and wore customes to welcome the new season. Today at BMH, children carried pumpkin lanterns and stepped into new roles, exploring different cultures through one of the world's most celebrated traditions.
That morning, our campus became a living gallery of creativity. Students arrived not as themselves, but as characters spanning cultures and eras—from Harry Potter to cyberpunk heroes, classical figures to modern icons. East and West merged in a vibrant display of imagination.
The celebration began with an original play performed by Pre School parents. The Real Magic taught children about courage and kindness through a story created just for them.
Later, parents and children walked together in a fashion show—firefighters holding fathers' hands, princesses in traditional dress smiling at their mothers—each outfit telling a family's unique story.
Meanwhile, Prep school students paraded through campus as their favorite characters. Harry Potter met friendly witches, and Elsa walked with cheerful pumpkins—a playful meeting of cultures and stories. Twelve students received awards for costumes that showed special cultural insight and creative thinking.
Behind the fun lay meaningful learning. Prep school inquiry lessons explored the origin and custom of Halloween and how different cultures celebrate harvest and honor ancestors.
Pre school children practised social skills while trick-or-treating across campus.
Junior high students discovered Day of the Dead traditions, creating colorful skull art while discussing how cultures celebrate life.
As evening fell, the BMH lawn transformed into a magical space. Parent-run booths offered games and crafts, while children's "trick-or-treat" calls filled the air. Families gathered under the stars for an outdoor screening of The Book of Life, its themes of memory and legacy blending with the day's joy.
At BMH, Halloween isn't just about costumes and candy—it's a cultural journey that helps students understand our diverse world. When children explore traditions firsthand and blend cultures creatively, they grow as open-minded global citizens.
