Good morning Principal, respected teachers, and fellow students,

This is Benny Pan from Class 4A. As we stand together under the national flag, we are still reflecting on last week’s mid-term exams. Let us turn our focus from scores to growth. Today, I want to share a truth about English learning that has shaped my own journey. True ability does not come from mindless memorization. It comes from the English environment we actively build, just as we did when learning Chinese.

Think about our first language. We did not learn Chinese well by memorizing rules alone. We listened to it every day, spoke it with our families, and slowly applied it in our lives. Learning English follows the same logic. It is not a subject to study in isolation; it is a language to live with actively.

First, focus on reading and listening. Pick materials you enjoy, like short stories, English songs, or simple news clips. Spend around 15 to 20 minutes each day with them. Read slowly to feel the flow. Listen repeatedly to get used to the glow of natural pronunciation. The more we surround ourselves with English, the more naturally it grows.

Second, speak up boldly. Read aloud when you are alone. Do not just glance at words silently. You can also imagine daily scenes—pretending to order food in a café or chat with a friend—then speak those conversations out loud. It is like practicing with a mental friend.

Besides, you can create an English environment at home. Start by talking to your family about simple things in English. Ask about dinner or share thoughts on a show. If you can, connect with foreign friends online. Short chats about hobbies or daily life will make using English feel real and bright.

Exams are a check of our progress, but real English excellence comes from living with the language. Let us treat English the way we treat Chinese. Since English plays a key role in our DSE exams, we should listen more, read more, speak freely, and weave it into our daily lives. This way, we will not only gain a useful skill but also move steadily forward in our exams. Open our minds, and embrace a world that is wide and bright.
