As the gentle autumn sun of Shenzhen filters through the forest canopy and casts its warmth upon the crimson corridors of Hongqiao Park, the autumn study tour of Dipont KCS International Academy (Zhonghui Campus) quietly begins on November 27.
What began as a simple 10-kilometer hike soon evolved—spurred by our students’ enthusiasm—into an extraordinary journey of endurance and discovery. From the scarlet skywalk of Hongqiao to the secluded beauty of Toad Rock, the route stretched into a 21-kilometer half marathon, engraving upon the meeting point of mountains and sea a profound lesson on growth and resilience.
Education happens on the road—every step conceals a surprise of growth.
21 Kilometers of Determination—Every Step Marks a Milestone of Growth
“What we thought would be a light hike turned into an ‘overachievement!’” Before setting off, students gazed at the 10-kilometer route map with both anticipation and apprehension, unaware of the unpredictability ahead. From 10 kilometers to 20, they pressed on, step by step, without complaint or retreat.
Starting from Hongqiao Park’s iconic crimson skywalk, their feet traced winding greenways, flanked by autumn’s vibrant hues. Entering the hidden realm of Toad Rock, the rocky slopes became thrilling adventures; crossing suspension bridges, they marveled at valleys below as mountain breezes whispered through the air. Each stride felt like walking through a living poem of nature.
*All the scenery above was captured by our students
From walking side by side to cheering one another on, the students surpassed themselves, completing the 21-kilometer challenge. This journey was not only a test of endurance but a testament to courage and perseverance.
The Warmth of Companionship: More Than Friends, Partners on the Path
The beauty of this journey lay not only in the scenery but in the bonds forged along the way.
The rugged trails of Toad Rock, notorious as the “Devil’s Path,” intimidated many with its steep descents. “Here, let me help you!” “Watch your step—steady on that rock!” Students at the front paused to lend a hand; strong boys carried six or seven bags for their peers, smiling despite the weight: “This is nothing!” At the rear, voices of encouragement echoed: “Just a little more—the view from the top is amazing!” No one was left behind. Hand in hand and shoulder to shoulder, they climbed together—every step a promise of unity and care.
This warmth—pure and unreserved—is the most precious harvest of the journey.
A Cliffside Picnic: Where Food and Scenery Become the Flavor of Youth
By noon, the group reached the summit of Toad Rock. On a flat ledge by the cliff, they unpacked their meals and began a “cliffside picnic.”
Sandwiches, fruits, snacks, homemade bento—students shared bites and laughter: “Here, have a cookie!” “Try this grape!” Sunshine lit their faces, autumn breezes carried the scent of grass and wood, and fatigue melted away in the joy of sharing.
Perhaps this simple feast, savored after a long trek, will remain etched in their memories—a reminder that happiness can be so simple: companions to walk with, landscapes to admire, and hearts willing to share.
Lessons Beyond Words: The Principal’s Silent Gesture—An Unspoken Class on Environmental Care
One moment stood out along the way.
Scattered plastic bottles and bags occasionally marred the greenway. Without a word, Our Head Mr. Ma bent down to pick them up—five or six times along the route—quietly placing them in bins. His quiet actions spoke louder than any words—a simple, powerful reminder that caring for the earth begins with small, mindful gestures.
This “silent lesson” carried more weight than words, planting seeds of environmental awareness in every heart.
Beyond the Classroom: Foreign Teachers Turn Dialogue into Nourishment for Growth
On this journey, foreign teachers were no longer “figures behind the podium,” but warm companions.
During breaks, they sat with students, chatting about life, sharing stories of different cultures, and exchanging perspectives on the world. On the trail, they slowed their pace to encourage those who lagged behind. No textbooks, no rigid rules—only relaxed conversations and equal dialogue.
“Come visit my hometown someday!” These cross-cultural exchanges not only deepened bonds but also broadened horizons, inspiring students to see the world through new eyes.
The Meaning of the Journey: Every Step Counts
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the study tour concluded. Though weary, the students returned enriched: 21 kilometers honed their willpower; mutual support taught responsibility; the principal’s example instilled respect for nature; and cultural exchanges expanded their vision.
This is the essence of experiential learning: not a mere trip, but a classroom in nature—where observation, touch, reflection, and growth happen in real time. As the saying goes, “Read ten thousand books, travel ten thousand miles.” Books lay the foundation of knowledge, but the road offers the sunlight and rain that nurture life.
May every departure add a bright stroke to their canvas of growth, and every return bring new stories of courage, kindness, and discovery. In the future, DKIA will continue to accompany students toward a broader world—where education moves with them, and growth knows no bounds.
