“Pinyin, reading, handwriting, Should we let our child build a foundation first?”
“Choosing an international path, Will my child fall behind if their English isn’t up to par from the start?”
“How can parents support their children during the Pre-Prep Transition?”
These repeated thoughts and concerns — are they the voices of every K3 parent?
When “Pre-Prep Transition”, an educational term, becomes a specific, ongoing daily pressure, we hope to relieve some of that anxiety for parents at BMH. True transition is not a rush to learn ahead, but a carefully guided, step-by-step journey, helping children to prepare physically and mentally for the changes ahead.
Multi-Dimensional Approach to
a "Seamless Pre-Prep Transition"
Successful transition is about a smooth landing for both the body and mind, the natural extension of learning abilities, and a warm expansion of social interactions. At BMH, we implement a series of interconnected professional measures to help children look forward to joining Prep School, rather than fear the unknown.
Ability Transition
Bilingual Enhancement
in English and Chinese
As children enter K3, their curriculum undergoes adjustments — while maintaining the play-based and inquiry-driven characteristics of daily teaching, we consciously incorporate the development of learning qualities such as time management, group collaboration, and persistence. Teachers guide the children to gradually develop an awareness of rules and responsibility, preparing them internally and externally for the demands of Prep School learning.
In addition, next term we will offer a series of CCAs specifically for K3 children, focusing on core skills. These CCAs will cover practical modules such as English reading, writing and expression, fun Pinyin, and Chinese character games. These CCAs are not mechanical exercises, but rather interactive and experiential, designed to help children naturally acquire the "soft skills" and "hard foundations" that will make them more confident and well-prepared in Prep 1.
Through creative and hands-on activities, children will learn English spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Through fun reading games, imaginative storytelling, and group discussions, we aim to build children's confidence in reading English and comprehension, while also fostering a love for books and learning.
Through immersive play, children will develop an interest in learning Pinyin, gradually mastering the basics of initial consonants, simple or compound vowels, and syllables for pronunciation.
By engaging in Chinese character games, children will learn the structure of Chinese characters, the key principles of writing them, and appreciate the beauty of the Chinese language.
Physical and Mental Preparation
Ready to Join Prep School
Children need to make solid progress in their thinking and learning abilities, while also adjusting physically and mentally to the rhythm and environment of Prep School. As we have Pre School, Prep School and Junior High School, BMH Prep School itself is the most vivid “preparatory classroom” for children. K3 students will regularly visit Prep School — they will actually sit at a Prep 1 desk to experience the classroom rhythm, open their eyes wide in the science laboratory, marvelling with “Wow!”, and solemnly participate in the school’s flag-raising ceremony…
Home-School Collaboration
Supporting a Seamless Transition
Children have their own learning journey, and parents have their own concerns. We hope to assist parents and ensure every family experiences a smooth transition.
Every year, BMH hosts themed workshops, course briefings, and immersive campus open days to clearly explain the educational goals, curriculum structure, and key areas of collaboration at Prep School. These events help parents fully understand the Pre-Prep transition.
When children are fully prepared in terms of body, mind, and skills, Prep School no longer becomes a difficult transition, but rather a naturally extended, vast stage. BMH Prep School’s dual-stream system embodies this “seamless growth” philosophy. It means that, no matter which path your family chooses, your child can confidently and comfortably receive high-quality, continuous education during their Prep School years at BMH.
