SAIS 11th Terry Fox Run｜深美第十一届Terry Fox Run｜在跑道上的每一步，都是点亮病房的一束希望

On the morning of November 28, the track at Shekou Sports Center was once again washed in SAIS blue. Under the crisp winter sun, students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, together with our faculty and families, gathered for the 11th SAIS Terry Fox Run.

For a moment, the track transformed from a sports field into an open classroom. Each step became a quiet answer to a story of courage, perseverance, and compassion—one that has inspired generations across the world.

The Terry Fox Run is a global charity initiative honoring Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Since 2014, SAIS has embraced this event not only as a fundraiser, but as a yearly practice of life education, student agency, and community action.

Across eleven years, our school has raised 468,825.47 RMB for Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, including 27,176.47 RMB this year. These numbers represent more than donations—they reflect a long-standing bridge between our track and the hospital ward, and a promise from the SAIS community that we will continue to show up for children fighting cancer.

As warm-up music echoed and House flags flew, students took their places—faces painted, spirits focused.

Young learners walked or jogged with adults guiding them. Older students found their pace with peers. High schoolers and teachers supported logistics, hydration, and pacing.

The goal was never speed. It was a different question entirely: “Can I take a few more steps, for someone who cannot?”

This is the deeper lesson sport teaches at SAIS—not competition, but resilience, empathy, and responsibility.

Before the run, each student brought home a pledge form. Their task was deceptively simple: speak to adults around them and explain why this cause matters.

For many, this took more courage than running laps. They learned to articulate purpose, handle hesitation, and take ownership of their commitments.

This is authentic service learning: understanding an issue, taking initiative, participating in action, tracking impact, and reflecting afterward. Students realized that their choices—big or small—carry real weight in the world.

This year, families played a powerful role. Parents filled the stands with cheers and energy. Others supported the charity sale, preparing items and managing booths.

Children may forget their lap count, but they will remember something far more lasting: “On that day, the adults around me also chose to help someone else.”

That memory becomes its own form of moral education.

Funds raised will be donated to Shenzhen Children’s Hospital to support treatment and care for children with cancer. A complete donation report will be shared with all families once final tallies are completed. 

Teachers will continue the learning in class—letters and reflections in language lessons, data analysis in math, and discussions about hardship, empathy, and community in SEL and homeroom. 

The run may last one morning, but its influence will continue shaping how our students think, care, and act.

11 月 28 日的清晨，蛇口体育中心的跑道再次被深美标志性的蓝色点亮。在清冽的冬日阳光下，从幼儿园到十二年级的学生，与教师与家长共同聚集，迎来第十一届 SAIS Terry Fox Run。

那一刻，跑道不仅是一块运动场，更像一间开放的课堂。每一步都成为对“勇气、坚韧与善意”这一故事的无声回应——一个影响了全世界无数人的真实故事。

Terry Fox Run 是一项全球性的慈善跑步活动，旨在纪念加拿大癌症活动家 Terry Fox 及其“希望马拉松”。自 2014 年以来，深美每年参与这项活动，将其视为生命教育、学生自主行动力与社区参与的重要实践。

过去十一年，深美已累计为深圳儿童医院筹得468,825.47 元，其中今年募得 27,176.47 元。每一个数字都不仅仅是善款，更代表着深美跑道与医院病房之间的那座长期连结的桥梁，以及深美社区对抗癌儿童“我们会继续陪伴你们”的承诺。

当热身音乐响起、House 旗帜迎风飘扬，孩子们陆续在跑道上就位——脸上描绘着彩绘，眼神专注坚定。

年幼的孩子在成人陪伴下散步或慢跑；大一点的学生与同伴找到属于自己的节奏；高中生与老师则承担补给、秩序、节奏等现场支持任务。

活动的目标从不是速度，而是另一个更深的问题：

“能不能为了那些无法再迈步的人，多跑几步？”

在深美，体育的意义远不止竞技本身，更是韧性、同理心与责任感的课堂。

在活动前，每位学生都会将捐款表带回家。他们的任务看似简单，却并不容易：向身边大人解释为何这项活动重要。

对许多学生而言，勇敢开口比跑步更具挑战。他们学习表达意义、面对拒绝，也学习为自己的承诺负责。

这就是深美一直坚持的真实服务性学习：理解议题、主动采取行动、参与任务、追踪影响并进行反思。

学生在过程中意识到：

自己的选择——无论大小——都能对世界产生影响。

今年，家长的参与尤为亮眼。有的在看台上为孩子们加油，有的支持慈善义卖，准备物资或协助摊位运营。

孩子可能会忘记自己跑了多少圈，但他们会记得更重要的一件事：

“那一天，大人们也选择为别人做一件好事。”

这种记忆会成为孩子心中最柔软而坚定的价值。

所有善款将用于支持深圳儿童医院的癌症患儿。最终捐款报告将在汇总完成后发给全体家庭。

课堂中的学习也将继续延伸——

语言课里的信件与反思、数学课中的数据分析、SEL 与班会中的关于困境、共情与社区责任的讨论。

义跑只持续一个上午，但它带来的影响，会继续塑造孩子们未来思考、关怀与行动的方式。
