A warm December brought about yet another edition of the regional round of the World Scholar’s Cup to Shenzhen. Returning Merchistonian scholars had been getting ready for over a year, knowing that this edition was their time to shine. And shine they did! From Chloe’s neck becoming heavy due to the number of medals she won to the two teams that won trophies, and let’s not forget Clark participating in the debate showcase, what a pool of talent has grown in our school!
On the field, Merchiston students fired on all cylinders, clinching 6 trophies, 55 gold medals and 38 silver medals. Five teams successfully advanced to the 2026 "World Scholar's Cup" Global Round!
New scholars also had a chance to share in the spotlight. Qianhai sent four scholars-in-training that went through their first WSC experience and won both their first mini-alpacas and medals. Longhua also sent its new scholars who received guidance from our returning scholars, it is a joy to see such collaboration taking place in the different events!
Kudos as well to Felix Hu from Qianhai as well as Matthew and Henry for participating in the talent show, the first singing in front of over 300 people and the two others presenting an updated version of a WSC sing-along, what amazing examples of bravery, hard-work and determination!
Finally, I would be remiss if I did not congratulate the team of Tidus Ang, Lucas Ang and Celine Li for being chosen as the TOP qualifiers of all the teams in this regional round! Your dedication to learning and ability to adapt and grow has been one of the highlights of this round! I wish I had even more exclamation marks to tell you how proud I am and all of teachers are of your achievements.
Scholars of Merchiston, the world awaits you! Pwaa!
