This week, we welcome new Gecko families to our Net Valley campus; we wish they feel right at home, fostering a sense of belonging within the SIS community from the very beginning. The Secondary Principal Mr. Doige, Secondary Assistant Principal Mr. Brink, and Mr. Mathews, Athletics & Activities Director, along with our counselors Ms. Kerns, Ms. Ferrari, Ms. Tan, and Ms. Garnhum, DP Coordinator, Ms. Priambodo, MYP Coordinator addressed the new families, expressing their excitement about having them join the SIS family. 

One of the highlights of the event was a group of students volunteering to guide the new families on a campus tour and answer their questions. Through a series of well-planned activities, the event helped build relationships between parents, teachers, and students, laying out the foundation for a positive and productive school year. As the new semester progresses, the connections made during this event will continue to grow, contributing to a strong and supportive school community that nurtures the growth and development of every student. 

本周，欢迎各位壁虎家庭加入SIS网谷校区，愿大家宾至如归，在SIS社区中找到归属感。中学校长Mr. Doige、副校长Mr. Brink和运动与活动总监Mr. Mathews，以及我们的顾问Ms. Kerns、Ms. Ferrari、Ms. Tan和DP协调员Ms. Garnhum、MYP协调员Ms. Priambodo共同在迎新活动中对新家庭的加入表示热烈欢迎。 

活动的亮点之一是由学生代表组成的向导团带领新家庭参观校园并解答疑问。通过这些精心安排的环节，我们希望能有效促进家长、师生与学校之间的情感联结，为积极而富有成效的新学年奠定坚实基础。随着新学期的到来，本次活动搭建的沟通桥梁将持续延伸，共同构筑一个支持有力、温暖包容的校园共同体，助力每位学子的成长与发展。 

During Wednesday’s Gecko Core, G10 students took part in their final induction session ahead of the DP Course Selection Fair on Monday, January 19 (18:00–19:30). The session was led by Erin Garnhum, who supported students in reflecting on the subject presentations they attended in Semester 1 and the course selection guidance shared by Pam Tan. 

As Reflective learners, students reviewed what they have learned about different DP subjects and pathways, and considered how their strengths, interests, and future goals should inform their choices. The session placed a strong emphasis on self-management skills, guiding students through the course selection process, key Semester 2 dates, and practical scenarios. Students also identified purposeful questions to ask subject teachers at the Course Selection Fair, supporting informed and intentional decision-making as they prepare for the Diploma Programme. 

在周三壁虎核心课上，G10同学参加了在1月19日周一18:00-19:30的DP课程博览会前最后一次指导讲座。此次讲座由DP协调员Erin Garnhum老师主讲，她引导学生回顾了在第一学期参加的学科介绍讲座，以及由升学顾问Pam Tan老师分享的选课指导建议。 

作为善于反思的学习者，同学们回顾了自己对不同DP学科和学习路径的了解，并思考了应如何根据自身优势、兴趣和未来目标来做出选择。讲座着重强调了自我管理技能的培养，引导学生了解选课流程、第二学期的关键日期以及实际情景应对。同学们还列出了在课程博览会上要向学科老师咨询的有针对性问题，以便在准备国际文凭大学预科项目时能够做出明智且有目的性的决策。  

On Tuesday, January 6, G11 students came together over lunch to launch the Collaborative Sciences Project. Led by Mr. Winstanley, Learning Lead for Science, the session introduced the purpose and structure of the project, which invites students to be Inquirers and Thinkers by investigating sustainability-focused challenges relevant to the SIS community through collaborative scientific inquiry. 

A key focus of the project is the development of collaboration skills, as students work in interdisciplinary teams to plan, share responsibility, and solve problems collectively. As part of their Diploma Programme requirements, students will develop proposals and engage with staff across SIS to gather and analyze data about sustainability. The main project days will take place on February 11 and 12, culminating in a showcase on the afternoon of February 12, where students will demonstrate their learning as Reflective and Caring members of the SIS and Shekou community by sharing their findings with parents. 

本周二1月6日中午，G11同学齐聚一堂，共同启动了“协同科学项目”。项目由科学学科组长Winstanley老师主持，他在活动上介绍了项目的宗旨与架构，项目鼓励学生以探究者和思考者的身份，通过协同科学探究的方式，研究与SIS社区息息相关的可持续发展挑战。 

项目的一大重点在于培养学生的协作能力，他们将跨学科组队，共同规划、分担责任并集体解决问题。作为国际文凭大学预科项目的要求之一，同学们将制定提案，并与SIS教师们展开互动，收集并分析有关可持续发展的数据。项目的主要活动日为2月11和12日，最终将于2月12日下午举行成果展示，届时同学们将作为SIS及蛇口社区中善于反思、富有爱心的成员，与家长们分享自己的研究发现。 

During Period 4 on 16 December, Yanshan Community brought a vibrant Peking Opera experience to the NV Campus. Students from G6 to 10 were immersed in the beauty and richness of this traditional Chinese art form. In addition to enjoying a professional performance, students actively participated in interactive activities, learning to sing “Shuo Chang Lian Pu” and gaining first-hand insight into the skills of Peking Opera. Two students in particular - Everest from G6 and Yijun from G8 - had the unique opportunity to have their faces painted by a Peking Opera artist, transforming into the fair and incorruptible Judge Bao and the brave Monkey King. This engaging cultural experience deepened students’ appreciation of Chinese heritage and enriched the school’s campus life. 

在12月16日第四节课上，沿山社区走进我们网谷校区，将精彩的京剧表演带入校园。G6-G10的同学沉浸式体验了国粹艺术的独特魅力。同学们不仅欣赏了专业演出，还积极参与互动，学唱《说唱脸谱》，近距离感受京剧的唱、念、做、打。活动中，G6 Everest和G8 Yijun幸运地体验了京剧艺术家手绘脸谱，他俩此时化身铁面无私的包青天与勇敢无畏的孙悟空，赢得阵阵掌声。这场活动以生动有趣的方式加深了学生对中华优秀传统文化的理解与认同，也为校园文化建设注入了新的活力。感谢沿山社区的支持，期待未来我们与社区能开展更多高质量的文化交流活动。 

Prior to breaking up for the winter break, our school community came together in a spirit of celebration to acknowledge and honor the outstanding academic achievements of our students. It was a momentous occasion filled with pride and joy as we recognized those who had reached significant academic milestones throughout the semester. We were truly delighted to see such a large number of students being awarded Honours and High Honours. These accolades are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and relentless pursuit of excellence. 

As we celebrate the academic achievements of our students, we also recognize the importance of sports activities in their overall growth and development. At SIS, we are committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment where students can thrive academically, physically, and socially. We congratulate all our students on their accomplishments and look forward to witnessing their continued success in the future. 

在寒假来临之前，我校全体师生齐聚一堂，怀着庆祝的喜悦之情，共同表彰同学们在这一学期里取得的卓越学术成就。这是一个充满自豪与欢乐的重大时刻，我们借此机会对那些在学业上取得显著里程碑式进步的学生们予以表扬。看到许多同学荣获“荣誉奖”和“高度荣誉奖”，我们由衷地感到欣喜。这些荣誉是对他们不懈努力、全身心投入以及执着追求卓越精神的最好证明。 

在庆祝他们学术成就的同时，我们也深知体育活动在他们全面成长与发展过程中的重要性。在SIS，我们致力于营造一个支持性强且富有启发性的环境，让同学们能够在学术、身心和社交等方面都能茁壮成长。我们向所有取得成就的同学表示祝贺，并满怀期待地见证他们在未来继续取得更加辉煌的成功。 

Our last winter assembly was dedicated to our incredible students. We are delighted to honor those who have consistently embodied the IB Learner Profiles, the heart of our educational mission. These students have gone above and beyond in demonstrating the attributes that make them not only outstanding learners but also exceptional global citizens. In recognition of their dedication, these fantanstic students were awarded the Gecko Keychain - a symbol of our community values and their personal commitment to these vital attributes.  

我们上一次的冬季集会专为我们优秀的学生而设。我们怀着欣喜的心情表彰那些始终践行IB学习者培养目标的学生，这些目标正是我们教育使命的核心。这些同学在日常学习与生活中，以实际行动超越了期待，展现了不仅是卓越学习者、更是杰出世界公民的素养。为了表彰他们的坚持与付出，他们赢得了壁虎钥匙扣 - 它象征着我们社区的共同价值，也代表着他们个人对这些重要素养的郑重承诺。 

What a wonderful way to wrap up the semester! On the final day before winter break, our school community came together for a morning full of warmth, treats, and cozy fun and laugher. It was a joyful opportunity for students across grades to connect, share laughs, and enjoy a relaxed meal together before heading into the holidays. Adding an extra layer of warmth, our amazing PSA set up a festive hot cocoa station! A sweet treat that perfectly captured the holiday spirit. 

多么美妙的学期末！在放寒假之前，我们校园社群共聚一堂，享受了一个充满温暖、美食和温馨欢笑的早晨。这为不同年级的学生提供了宝贵的交流机会，让大家在假期前共享欢笑和美食。更添暖意的是我们出色的家委会精心布置了节日热可可热饮站！这份甜蜜的款待完美捕捉了节日的温馨氛围。 

This showcase highlighted the creativity of our G6 - G10 Theatre Arts students. It featured a range of work developed throughout the semester, from dynamic performances to collaborative group projects. Visitors were invited to view photos capturing moments of expression and teamwork, and to scan the QR codes to watch or listen to recordings of the performances. The display celebrated the dedication, creativity, and growth of our young theatre artists.

这次汇演展现了我们G6-G10戏剧艺术课同学的创造力。展演内容涵盖整个学期所创作的各类作品，从活力四射的表演到团队协作的项目应有尽有。参观者受邀观看那些捕捉了学生们表达瞬间与团队协作精神的照片，还可扫描二维码观看或聆听表演录音。让我们一起用这场展演为我们年轻的戏剧艺术家们的专注投入、无限创意与茁壮成长而庆祝。 

The Winter Concert filled the auditorium with the sound of seasonal joy and musical excellence. Our choirs sang with heart and harmony; our bands played with precision and energy, and our strings and ensembles moved the audience with their graceful performances. From classic carols and winter favorites to contemporary pieces and cultural melodies, the program was a rich tapestry of sound that celebrated both tradition and innovation. The stage shone not only with spotlights, but with the focus, teamwork, and sheer joy of every performer. 

Thank you to everyone who participated, attended, and helped create this unforgettable celebration of the season and of our students' shining abilities. 

冬季音乐会以满载节日喜悦与卓越音乐水准的旋律充盈了整个礼堂。合唱团以真挚的情感和默契的和声倾情演绎；乐队用精准而充满活力的演奏打动人心；弦乐团与合奏团体则以优雅娴熟的表演深深感染着每一位观众。从经典颂歌与冬日名曲，到现代乐章与多元文化旋律，整场演出宛如一幅绚丽的声音织锦，既传承经典，又颂扬创新。舞台上闪耀的不仅是聚光灯的光芒，更是每一位表演者全情的投入、默契的协作与纯粹的喜悦。
