Dear SIS Community,
TEDxSIS is one of the events during our year that I love. It is a showcase of talent that is unmatched. Having the chance to see young people who are so articulate and insightful on stage is a true joy. There is an undoubted talent in so many of our students, and it is a feature of SIS that we have talented teachers who help to bring that talent to the fore.
Our student speakers and teachers work together to prepare for TEDxSIS at our Bootcamps. Over the last two bootcamps on November 23 and December 13, student and teacher speakers from across both The Bay and Net Valley campuses prepared for the main event. I’d like to recognize student organizers — Shian (G12 lead organizer), Minsung (G11 curator), Eunsol and Lucy (G11 and G9 designers), and Evie (G12 event manager) — student facilitators Ms. Laird and Ms. Camille, and lead organizers Mr. Ku and Ms. Nisse.
I still well remember the first TEDxSIS. I know how much care goes into making great events. Bootcamps focus on drafting, timing, and persuasive techniques. Speakers clarify their claims and calls to action, with expectations for regular work with their coaches. Skills such as “How to Sound Smart” convincing delivery, slide design, are perfected along with hands-on rehearsal.
For anyone who has been in an audience, you will know TEDx is our IB curriculum in action! The Learner Profile is so evident with our Communicators being Risk-takers and Thinkers. The process also develops our foundational skills of self-management, research, and collaboration.
This important Co-Curricular Activity also reinforces the truly international and inclusive experience that SIS offers. Diverse topics connect many perspectives. Our students start with talent, and it is the coaching and feedback of our expert teachers that makes a real difference and creates the magic that is never forgotten.
Save the date: TEDxSIS takes the stage for “Minds Wide Open" on Sunday, February 8, 2026 at The Bay Theatre. I definitely recommend this to everyone as a wonderful showcase of how the SIS education inspires the best from students.
