“I want to become a geological engineer when I grow up—to explore what lies deep beneath the Earth.”
——Jefferson
“My dream is to be a dolphin trainer, swimming and playing with dolphins in the water.”
——Emilia
At MIS, Jefferson, a Year 5 older brother, harbors a curiosity about the earth; his younger sister Emilia, in Year 4, is filled with longing to be with marine spirits. Though the two children have different passions, they are equally cherished and nurtured in this international campus that upholds the essence of British holistic education.
Genuine education never confines children's growth to a one-size-fits-all mold. Instead, it keenly captures the unique radiance of each life and paves the way for dreams with professionalism and warmth. MIS deeply understands this, integrating the essence of "holistic education" into daily life and allowing the nourishment of education to permeate every detail.
The weekly swimming lesson is a "life growth class" built by MIS for the children—not only a classroom for acquiring skills, but also a fertile ground for interests to germinate and dreams to take root. Their swimming coach, Leo, is a former champion of the Guangdong Provincial 400m Individual Medley and a provincial record breaker. He does not impose rigid training models on the children; instead, in a professional yet gentle manner, he guides them to feel the power of water and learn to coexist with it. For Emilia, this compulsory course has long transcended mere "sport": Coach Leo adjusts the focus of training according to her dream of "interacting with dolphins," making every stroke a step closer to her dream.
In the nearby classroom, older brother Jefferson is sitting in a circle with his classmates, enthusiastically reviewing the details of their World Scholar’s Cup preparation. Amidst the collision of ideas, the children not only hone their language expression and logical thinking skills, but also cultivate an international perspective and a spirit of collaboration imperceptibly.

The most successful education is to ignite a child's potential
For both children, their dreams became much clearer after a school-organized study trip to Huizhou last autumn. Spending several days away from home with teachers and classmates was both a challenge and a meaningful growth experience. Emilia took part in a marine conservation service project, once again observing marine life up close. She learned how to monitor water quality and protect marine habitats. “I realized how important dolphins’ living environments are. I want to take good care of them in the future.” This experience firmly planted the idea of becoming a dolphin trainer in her heart.
Jefferson, on the other hand, was captivated by the geological exploration activities during the trip. “What we learned in geography class could actually be applied in real life,” he said. From teamwork and role allocation to careful data collection and problem-solving, he experienced the genuine appeal of geological research and became even more determined to pursue a future as a geological engineer. Beyond applying textbook knowledge, the trip also taught both siblings how to take care of themselves and support their peers—skills they believe are just as important as academic results.

Beyond the Walls Lies a Broader Classroom
“
At MIS, learning doesn’t only happen inside classrooms。"
Emilia and Jefferson shared during the interview. The school’s lessons are designed as spaces for exploration and discovery, with every teacher and subject empowering students’ interests.
In science classes, teachers often take learning outdoors, guiding students to observe roadside plants and uncover the hidden wonders of nature. Swimming and physical education classes go beyond play, focusing on building real, practical skills.

Emilia mentioned teachers she particularly admires. Ms. Rose designs creative CCA classes that blend music and art with hands-on projects, making every lesson feel fresh and exciting.
From Teamwork to the Global Stage
Jefferson’s experience at the World Scholar’s Cup remains unforgettable. Competing as part of a team from his class, he naturally stepped into a leadership role. Since some teammates were first-time participants, he patiently explained the competition format and organized key points. When disagreements arose, he helped mediate and keep the team focused. “We prepared together, debated together—it felt less like a team and more like a group of companions striving toward the same goal.”
The most emotional moment came during the awards ceremony. As the advancement list was announced, Jefferson didn’t see his team’s name and felt deeply disappointed. Just as hope was fading, an “additional qualifying list” appeared on the screen—and their team was on it. They had earned a spot in the Global Round. “At that moment, every effort felt worthwhile. I was incredibly proud.” Beyond the achievement, the experience taught him resilience under pressure and how to collaborate with diverse teammates—lessons no textbook could offer.
Jefferson also participates in Spanish CCA and ISL interschool sports programs, including basketball and football, competing and interacting with students from other schools. “I’ve become stronger physically, made many new friends, and broadened my horizons.” Emilia enjoys science practice activities, actively asking questions and researching topics she doesn’t understand. Over time, her interest in science has deepened, along with her knowledge of marine life.
When asked how they balance academics and personal interests, their answers were refreshingly sincere. “There’s no need to balance them deliberately—interests are part of learning,” Jefferson said. Sports keep him energized for classes, while preparing for the World Scholar’s Cup expanded his knowledge far beyond the curriculum. Emilia nodded in agreement: “I love swimming and studying marine life. These interests make me want to learn science and English, because I know mastering them will help me achieve my dream.”
Both children highlighted the value of assessments and teacher feedback. “Teachers tell us what we’re doing well and where we need to improve. We adjust and keep getting better.” At MIS, exams are not about ranking students, but about helping them identify areas for growth—like a compass guiding them forward.
Nurturing Every Passion with Care
At MIS, the dreams of Emilia and Jefferson receive tangible, thoughtful support.
Becoming a dolphin trainer requires strong swimming skills and deep knowledge of marine biology. The school provides Emilia with professional swimming training, where Coach Leo designs personalized plans and patiently corrects her technique. Teachers also recommend books and resources on marine life to deepen her understanding. “After the school learned about my dream, they’ve supported me all the way. It makes me feel that this dream is truly possible,” Emilia said with gratitude.
For Jefferson’s ambition to become a geological engineer, the curriculum helps build a solid foundation. ICT classes teach him to solve problems through technology; STEM develops hands-on and engineering thinking; IPC introduces him to global geography and natural environments, fueling his curiosity about the Earth. “Each subject feels like a puzzle piece, slowly forming the skills I’ll need as a geological engineer.”
“MIS encourages us to explore what we love and try new things. No matter how unique a dream is, there’s always a way to pursue it,” both children shared. Here, no dream is considered more important than another. Every student’s individuality is seen, respected, and carefully cultivated.
One sibling is fascinated by the land, the other drawn to the sea. With the same dedication, the school has paved distinct paths for each of them to follow their dreams. At MIS, every dream is taken seriously, and every child is given the space to grow, shine, and move confidently toward the future they imagine.
