On February 1st, under a warm and pleasant sun, the campus of Shenzhen Merchiston International School (MIS) was brimming with vitality. The Second Bay Area Sports Festival of the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) Shenzhen Alumni Association was grandly launched here, bringing together nearly 300 alumni and their families for a celebration of sports and culture, marking a new chapter in the deepening cooperation between MIS and the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association.
Mr. Lyu Jianjun, Founder and Chairman of the Board of MIS, an alumnus of the CKGSB EMBA Class 10 and Vice President of the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association, has laid a solid foundation for the collaborative development between the two institutions through his dual roles. The event also featured participation from alumni organizations of over ten prestigious universities, including the Peking University HSBC Business School EMBA Student Union, the National University of Singapore Business School South China Alumni Association, and the Peking University Guanghua School of Management EMBA South China Alumni Association, highlighting the characteristics of cross-university collaboration and Bay Area integration.
In the morning, the campus was filled with a competitive atmosphere. The heartwarming "CEO & Me 2KM Parent-Child Run" saw parents and children running side by side; table tennis and badminton matches were intensely fought, with thrilling rallies winning rounds of applause. MIS's first-class teaching facilities and its campus culture of "Dedication from the Heart, Education through Love" received unanimous praise from the guests.
In the evening, the "Bay Area Talent Show" took the stage. The melodious sounds of the piano intertwined with the rich tones of the French horn, adding an artistic elegance to the vibrant event.
A series of significant moments unfolded during the festival. Mr. Xie Pengcheng, Rotating President of the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association and Chairman of Jingwu Group, representing the Alumni Association, exchanged commemorative gifts with MIS, symbolizing the profound friendship and shared vision for cooperation between both parties.
Subsequently, on behalf of MIS, Mr. Lyu Jianjun announced the launch of the "Napier Mathematics Scholarship" program, with a total fund of 5 million RMB. Building upon the nearly 200-year mathematical heritage of MIS’s founding school—whose original campus was the castle of John Napier, the inventor of logarithms—this program aims to recruit mathematically gifted students worldwide to form a "Napier Mathematics Elite Class." Through a cultivation system integrating "academic depth, competition training, and research initiation," the program seeks to foster outstanding growth in the field of mathematics.
The event also hosted the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association's quarterly birthday celebration, spreading a warm and joyful atmosphere. More excitingly, it was announced that special scholarships would be offered for children of CKGSB and invited university alumni associations to study at MIS, supporting elite families in nurturing globally competent talents.
From the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association’s sports gathering held at MIS in 2024, to the strategic partnership signed in 2025 and the appointment of Mr. Du Peng, President of the CKGSB Shenzhen Alumni Association, as a Director of MIS, the cooperation between the two parties has entered an integrated new phase. President Du Peng’s involvement brings additional wisdom and resources to MIS's strategic advancement. Upholding the philosophy of "Academic Excellence, Unmatched Warmth," MIS—as the first school in the Greater Bay Area to receive Oxford and Cambridge offers—paves a bridge to top universities for the children of alumni.
This Bay Area Sports Festival was not only a grand event of sports and culture but also a significant milestone in deepening the integration of industry and education between both parties. Moving forward, they will strengthen collaboration in areas such as sharing educational resources and co-creating branded events. By mobilizing diverse resources, they aim to build a high-end educational platform, cultivate future leaders with global vision and innovative capabilities, and inject new momentum into the integrated development of education and culture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
