The first stop was the Royal Academy of Music (RAM).Professor Christopher Elton, now in his eighties and widely regarded as one of the leading figures in British piano education, has trained generations of outstanding musicians. In his masterclass, his meticulous and patient guidance offered students a rare and deeply meaningful professional experience - one that revealed not only technique, but artistic responsibility. After class, Elton told the Meisha students: After undergoing professional training, you will all become outstanding piano performers in the future.

At RCM, students joined an academic salon hosted by a current doctoral candidate. The conversation extended far beyond application advice, touching on questions of specialization, the realities of daily music study, and the challenges behind artistic growth. Hearing directly from someone immersed in advanced study helped students envision their own paths with greater clarity.

A special lecture and performance by Dr. Nathaneil - renowned harpsichordist and musician to the British royal household - took place at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. In this storied venue, VMAers experienced firsthand the depth of Western classical tradition and cultural heritage. Within these living artistic spaces, history became tangible.

At leading comprehensive universities, an artistic background often serves as a catalyst for interdisciplinary inquiry. During their visit to Oxford, VMAers toured several colleges and held in-depth discussions with admissions officers. Oxford’s distinctive collegiate system and cross-disciplinary philosophy offered students a new perspective on higher education - and prompted fresh reflection on the relationship between art and academia.

At Cambridge, doctoral researcher Declan Hickey delivered a lecture on Romantic piano music and shared a systematic overview of academic pathways in music studies - from music curricula to chamber ensemble formation and performance practice, the lecture reveals the multifaceted dimensions of music within a comprehensive academic framework.

Through dialogue and discussion, students came to realize that music connects profoundly with psychology, philosophy, history, and even science. Artistic study is never isolated - it is embedded in a wider intellectual landscape.

During the UK tour, four VMAA students performed on the concert stage of the Royal Academy of Music. Standing in one of the world’s great institutions of music education, they not only demonstrated their professional abilities but also gained invaluable experience within an authentic international artistic context. The journey from classroom to stage allowed learning to resonate fully and meaningfully.

At the ‘London China-UK Piano Solo Recital’ held at St. Marylebone Parish Church, VMAA students performed once again. As part of the London Winter Music Festival, the concert brought together young musicians from China and the UK. In the quiet openness of the church space, music became a natural language of cross-cultural exchange.

Later, at a dedicated recital at Downing Place United Reformed Church in Cambridge, students performed alongside Cambridge scholars and professional musicians. Collaborating on stage with international artists not only elevated their expressive depth but also strengthened their understanding of how musical performance and academic research inform one another

For these young artists, stepping onto diverse stages also meant recognizing the cultural and expressive responsibility that art carries..

The VMAA UK Arts Study Program is more than a visit or observation tour. At the same time, VMAA continues to create diverse pathways for students who combine artistic excellence with interdisciplinary curiosity.Jiang, a former student admitted to the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, demonstrated exceptional potential through interdisciplinary training, thereby validating the effectiveness of the Meisha educational system.
