The Year of the Horse has begun, and the festive spirit of the Lantern Festival is everywhere. The excitement of a new term meets the warmth of an old tradition—blending into a school full of life.
To welcome children back, the Pre School set out a table of auspicious items. Children reached for apples, which stands for safety; oranges, for good fortune. They touched spring onions and celery, hoping for wisdom and a strong will to learn. With these good wishes, they stepped into the new term.
Drums greeted them at the gate. Then came the familiar morning dance music, and soon everyone was smiling.
On the Prep School quad, students stood in lines for the flag-raising ceremony. The Executive Headmaster and First Secretary shared their hopes for the months ahead, and everyone listened. It was a proper beginning.
In Pre School classrooms, children gathered to hear the story of the Lantern Festival. They made lanterns with their own hands and rolled sticky rice into sweet dumplings—simple, busy, and full of joy.
Across the school, Prep School students spent the day solving riddles. Each child carried a slip of paper with a puzzle, searching corners of the campus for answers.
Some brought their riddles to expat teachers, testing whether the fun could cross languages. It could.
The day's excitement reached its peak with a lion dance performance. As drums beat loudly, the lion leapt and twirled—now rising high, now crouching low—drawing cheers from the crowd at every move.
The old year is behind us. The lanterns are lit. May every child carry their light forward, and step confidently into the term ahead.
