With offers from top US art schools including Pratt Institute, MICA, SVA and School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Frank feels both surprised and fulfilled.

He received a $120,000 scholarship from MICA and $68,000 each from SVA and SAIC — all achieved from a boy with no prior art background but a bright vision just three years ago.

In this issue of Young Talk Vol.60, we explore the growth and transformation of Frank from Sendelta Liberal Arts Program.

Part.1 From Piano to Visual Art

"Before joining Sendelta, I never imagined pursuing art, let alone visual communication."

With an IELTS score of 7.5 and top academic performance, Frank has a unique journey.

He started playing the piano at age 3, and his parents once hoped he would pursue a career in music. Yet he was always drawn to visual expression, imagery, and creativity.

In primary school, he studied at an international school in Poland for three years, immersing himself in diverse cultures and nurturing an open, creative mindset. After returning to China, he realized he was better suited for an international education that encourages creativity and global vision.

That’s how he came to Sendelta.

In the Liberal Arts Program, with flexible pathways and abundant artistic resources, he finally found the courage to commit to art.

Part.2 Express myself through visuals.

Frank calls himself an "Online Person" who loves the digital world and has a natural eye for web design, interfaces, advertising, and visuals.

"Every app we use, poster we see, and content we browse is visual communication. It’s really cool to express myself through visual art."

His passion for digital media led him to choose Visual Communication.

The highlight of his portfolio is a series of posters for the experimental electronic music XNORXNORXNOR.

He divided the track into 12 stages, turning abstract emotions into vivid images inspired by the musician’s background, his own feelings, and life experiences.

"Years of piano training helped me understand the layers of emotion in music, and then I visualized them."

His cross‑disciplinary creativity and expression earned him offers from top art schools.

Part.3 A warm and free environment

To teachers and classmates, Frank is calm, focused, responsible, and always ready to help.

Yet he says, "I actually gained so much warmth from my friends."

Once quiet and reserved, he gradually opened up thanks to their positivity.

This personal growth quietly shaped his work — more open, empathetic, and powerful.

He especially loves Sendelta’s artistic atmosphere:

"No boundaries, no constraints — we respect each person’s pace and passion."

In Grade 10, he and a classmate designed the entire haunted house for Halloween, handling everything from installations and decorations to layout and atmosphere.

"It felt so rewarding to bring joy to others with my skills."

This experience became his most memorable high school memory.

Frank often emphasizes the support from his teachers:

While working on his portfolio about typhoons and personal identity, he struggled with visual expression.

Teacher Henry’s simple suggestion — “Try a lenticular card” — unlocked his creativity, turning an ordinary idea into something striking and original.

His IELTS 7.5 score also owes much to ESL teachers Joyce and Ashley, who patiently guided and supported him.

“They were always there whenever I needed help.”

When asked for advice to Juniors, Frank said simply:
